There's a mod called Half-Life Restored that restores some cut content. Unfortunately, it was pretty buggy when I played it and I can clearly see why some of the additions (such as reviving Vorts) were cut from the original in the first place.

2 fucked up the ammo economy. at no point in 2 do you feel like you're barely scraping by. there's also less variety in weapons.
2 also had very boring enemy AI, they just beeline right at you
