She's only related in that both Surge and Scourge originated from the Ashura glitch in Sonic 2 that palette swapped Sonic green and black.

Like any IP with a cool world you can make games in many genres aside from the primary one. It's just that Sega sucks. Even Pokemon used to have a bunch of different spinoff games in different genres. But Nintendo also sucks and has slowed down in that field.
