Why

More money has been put into making other players the NPCs.

Because most players don't want to play against enemies that are too smart and if you want to play with smarter enemies then you just play with real humans. It's not super practical with the nature of the video game industry at least right now.

(most) AAA devs are more into vapid graphics and indie devs are just starting to be able to make good AI (see selaco).

also some are more into making good bosses than good base enemies.

Ok, but even *niche* games that would avert this crude AAA business tendency don't do AI

Because you're an idiot. Fear had plenty of audio cues to let you know what the ai was thinkimg, a lot of games have done new stuff with ai but don't scream about it to you

example?

Play rdr2

Yeah, try running an advanced AI in a video game and see what happens to overall performance.

by AI i don't mean GPT3, I mean basic tech tha's been around since the 70s (capability-based models)

because power required scales linearly with complexity of AI. we could probably make a decent robot by now and in a decade we'll have sci fi level robots, at least in R&D. we'll be dealing with the uncanny valley probably for far longer than the underlying circuts

Videogame AI and AI AI aren't even remotely similar.

You know most of those breakthroughs can't be done in "real time" to be implemented in a NPC AI, right? Also, publishers are assholes. Recently a somewhat simple but interesting NPC IA behavior implementation got a troll patent so no one else could try it and explore what can be done with it.

user, you do realize that most people you're talking to in this very thread are just posts generated by a single AI operated by DARPA, right?

Even me?

yeah, this is the real problem. "Smart" AI just isn't fun. Multiple devs have spent millions of dollars developing smarter enemies only to revert or disable the logic because it just made the game not fun. Most of the time you can't even see what NPCs are doing because they're in a different room, etc. making it all worthless anyway. There's only so much you can impress people with HL1/FEAR style AI talking

AI doesn’t sell, but things like graphics do.

Lol

Even Elden Ring AI is absolute retard tier

Alien Isolation kinda, but ya man your almost 100% right.

Seinfeld was never funny.
