sonic's campaign is pretty good but the levels lack the polish of sa2.
the rest of the character campaigns are kinda shit, but e102's story is 100% worth experiencing.

Its alright for a game, but for a 3d sonic game its great since the standards are so low, keep in mind its an old 3D game so there's lots of jank that can happen

Yet you can do exactly that. You csn fully criticize something withoutva comparison as it is done all the time.
Case in point sa existed by itself for a time where sa2 did not exist as well. Thus in that case and in the proposed scenario op requested, we do not need to compare sa to anything but itself and what it did right or wrong on its individual merits.

The Dreamcast version recieved universal acclaim when it was released. Same with Adventure 2.
