Can I get something off my chest? Elden Ring story telling is garbage. The lore feels thin, and placed in the worst spots. You can clear an entire area, fight a boss you know little about, find no hints of culture, and then come back 30 hours later to find a terribly placed NPC that talks in past tense as if you haven't already cleared the area making things vague and irritating. NPCs just popping up with no introduction is often common. There is no intrigue to your adventure unless you desperately grasp onto the first couple dialogues of "you could be a god, bro." for hundreds of hours (unless you speed through the bosses.) The side quests fall flat. Sick bro, I helped you conquer your keep back and now all you're going to do is say "I will wait here now until I find a lord to rule this keep." There are no dialogue options with the NPCs you talk to, yet for some reason the developers decided to make you constantly re-engage with an NPC to make them continue. No lore books, writings, tombstones with writings, npc banter, etc. I could go on and on. The world was beautifully built, the graphics are great, and the combat is fun enough. The story telling just flat out sucks. Unless you go through wikis and read up on the areas you are traversing, it is impossible be immersed through lore or story telling. I really hope they make another Elden Ring game. I hope they actually try to build immersion and intrigue through story telling the next time around. Because the game is good, but the lore sucks.
Elden Ring Lore Sucks
Zanzibart = myrmidon
Probably GRRM's fault
Big agree, the most disappointing thing for me was the ending, felt really hollow and non-impactful, nothing was really expanded upon or answered (not that there was much to answer anyway i suppose)
"oh... thats it?" was sort of how I felt after beating it
You did the Elden lord ending didn’t you?
The obscure storytelling was nice the first time or two but is just played out and dull now. Definitely more so in the open world where time between discoveries and encounters is even larger than ever. Especially when so much of the lore is similar to past games anyway. ESPECIALLY when there is a fucking library at the hub where a character called the All Knowing is sat at reading all day. All the answers are right there but we can't pick up a single book or inquire even a little more beyond than what Godfrey tells us.
>GRRM is a hack
More news at 11.
Dude I didn't even finish. I 100% a couple areas and got bored. I killed maybe 4 of the main bosses and reached a level where everything was not a challenge. Without the intrigue, it was just gimmicky combat that I outscaled. Give me fucking annnnnything. Put a slave in one of the boss areas that describes the cruelty of his master. ANYTHING would have kept me in it. But every keep was hollow, every castle corner I explored gave nothing, and the information in the roundtable hold is so fucking bare it is unreal
Bloodborne says hello
It does story better than other souls games and has a better story than other souls games. But that's a low standard. But that is still the standard by which to judge this game.
Im with you. After beating the game and exploring everything i watched the mandatory lore video about it.
I'm glad I'm not crazy or getting flamed for this opinion. I feel slightly better now. Elden Ring has only made me crave Starfield ever so more..
>starfield
How can anyone be excited for that game after the clusterfucks that were FO4 and 76?
Wait a minute... That's you, isn't it Todd? Haha almost fooled me there.
I'm personally enjoying the lore quite a bit, what is surprising me is how little that impacts my overall enjoyment of the game. If I were to rank the lore/stories and the games themselves, the two lists would be pretty close, if not identical. Then comes Elden Ring, fairly good lore, even if not my favorite, worst game in the series. Couldn't care less about the story when I'm not enjoying the game.
In all honesty, FO4 wasn't anywhere close to the dog shit that was 76. I can mod FO4 into acceptableness. But I see your point. I'm just holding on to hope I guess.
Smegma.
>I'm just holding on to hope
I used to be like you. Nowadays I don't expect anything at all and still end up disappointed.
Fuck. I'm 27 years old. How many years do I have left?
Well, yea.
Game of Thrones is just a bargain bin LOTR.
>But that is still the standard by which to judge this game.
>3 retards eat their own shit with their hands
>the 4th retard uses a spoon to eat shit
>we should judge the 4th retard by the standards of the first 3
Wrong. Shit is shit.
Sounds like you're describing the average amerigolem here.
If you expected anything else by From, you're literally a moron.
they rely on youtubers to extrapolate it into multi hour long videos of headcanon
Yeah the lore is inconsistent as shit. My big problem is how the fuck was there that massive army from Godrick in the trailer when Limgrave has absolutely nothing that can house that many people let alone feed everyone there? Where the fuck are the other cities?
>NO, YOU CANT JOIN THE ROUNDTABLE UNLESS YOU HAVE A GREAT RUNE!
What rune did he have again?
The castle, forsts and ruined villages have enough room for many people, and considering all thing, we have no reason to believe anyone in this universe actually needs to eat anything else than shit.
As for the lore being inconsistent, it's all the same shit with modern from.
>"where is the nigger/white woman romance and a tranny telling me the story"
LOL
I pretty much missed every singe npc questline in the game. They are so bullshit in this game it's infuriating.
>missed the end of Ranni's quest because i didnt speak twice to her doll
>The entire fucking quest design of sellen
>finished the game before they patched some cut npc and questlines so i missed content because the game's release was rushed
and so on and so forth, i am not asking for a quest checkmark in the game but fuck, it's way worse than previous souls games.
Not GRRM fault. He wrote an interesting backstory with in-fighting characters. It was FromSoft that turned it into another shitty "decaying post-apo fantasy world" again.
I'm pretty sure he include himself when he says everyone but at the table is a fucking scrub.
I do like how the narrator just scream out his name like he's the most badass guy in the world when he's literally a fucking has-been.
Why does Elden Ring cause so much seethe lmao
one copy of this
Look at this shit, look how many people there are. Where the fuck did they come from? Abd the fuck did they eat because apparently the only farms were in the altus plateau. Limgrave has absolutely nothing to indicate this number of people lived somewhere. Liurnia at least had some sunken city with buildings.
Nigga he just copied Dark Souls lore and just gave everything a different name.
lmao
Don't you see his runes around his body when you fight him? if not i don't know kek
It's only worst because the shitty open world design doesn't merge well with the shitty From storytelling.
user, GRRM is an hack(so is from), but this was a "decaying post-apo fantasy world" at the second they mention the name because it's literally the only thing from do anymore.
Besides, de we actually know what contribution GRRM actually had on the story?
>Besides, de we actually know what contribution GRRM actually had on the story?
They said he wrote the backstory. Characters like Marika, Radagon and the Demigods etc. Basically what happened before the game takes place.
>Kill a boss
>get his rune
>for some unknown reason you now know the entire history of the boss you just killed
How do people defend this? This entire game is "Tell but not show" which is always a bad sign of writing.
How do you randomly know all about a boss after killing him? Why is that information not told through some book, NPC, or the world instead?
