Play HL
The enemy encounters are fairly sparse, with the games playtime being stretched out mostly by shitty on rails and platforming sections which act as nothing more but major speedbumps in case you were actually enjoying whatever little in terms of varied combat encounters the game is throwing at you. It's great when you're growing up on it and later coming back to it and getting washed over by the warm feeling of familiarity sure, but if you're someone coming into it completely fresh in this year it's absolutely mind-numbingly boring. It doesn't offer anything of substance outside of its historical significane in terms of narrative integration with gameplay and quaint setpieces.
Doom was influential and inovative. Its gameplay is still fun to this day because at its core it's a good game. Both the HL games are an absolute chore to play because they were centered around a novel idea without any actual substance to their core gameplay and as such wore out like the cheap novelties that they were.
Lol, great april fools thread.
Downtime is fine when it's done whenever the player chooses and for however long he chooses, while also engaging and rewarding the player for it. Which is the purpose secrets in oldschool shooters served. You clear an area, dick around looking for secrets for however long you can be bothered, then continue on with the carnage. It's part of a rewarding and engaging gameplay system and therefore aged well. In contrast HL1 and 2 downtime is all linear, scripted bullshit you are forced through whenever the game feels like it, and it's completely unrewarding because all it is is shitty platforming and setpieces that have simply lost their technical wow factor, without which there's nothing else. No exploration, no reward, nothing. Just jump around on suspended containers, jump around on floating pieces of debree, jump around on floating islands, and your only reward for all this shit is the next segment of actual gameplay which is all you wanted in the first place.
not going to lie, it was too scary for me, I don't like scary games, especially water sections. I can't play most boomer shooters cause they all have underwater levels.
Who still has hype for HL3?
any year now, cuz
Half-Life 1 was first really good fps besides Dark Forces 2.
I wish there was a mod for Half Life 1 that added more realistic gunplay. There is Brutal Half Life, but it's not perfect - I keep getting CTDs in the silo mission.
kill yourself
for its time it was literally magic, nothing before had been seen like this. zoomers and young millennials mostly never grasp what made half life so special
i'd agree with a lot of that post. playing half life today is admittedly shit, the nostalgia factor is nice and the memories of it will always be in rose glasses
Based
How hl niggers will ever recover
Newfag
lol
you mean, Black Mesa?
All HLs are just Quake
No, I mean half life 1, but with more realistic gunplay. Things like realistic ballistics, aiming down sights, so on.
As a shooter it does feel a bit basic.
STALKER?...
I don't know.
Realistic gunplay is tough but HL: Alyx actually had me facing real AI I could flank and attack from cover.
DSP finished HL1 and i never did.
No one refuted the 8ch posts.
>this thread again
go away
Sure, Stalker is good. But I think you misunderstand, I want Half Life 1 (as in graphics story levels etc) but with more realistic shooting.
>Constant chip damage from hitscanners
this was by design and in fact most of the other classic fps you claim to love so much did the same, they operated on the understanding that you were just going to get hurt sometimes
you'd know this if you had actually played them instead of making the same thread on Any Forums every day
SeeHL is decline
