Knowing Torrent means nothing, the two are completely different on every possible level except for their eye mark, which could easily have another explanation. Their goals are completely different, their personalities are different, Ranni can marry you after Melina swears she'll murder you, Melina fights like a Black Knife Assassin while Ranni presumably utilizes Carian sorcery, and there's a mountain of other points of differentiation. Melina's mother, whether in the literal or metaphysical sense, is Marika, so they are related in a way, but anyone taking Melina equaling Ranni at face value is retarded. If Ranni's body wasn't discoverable ingame, you could make a strong argument that Melina is her old body, but we know that's not possible.

I'm saying that their designs are meant to be similar, not that the eye thing makes sense lore-wise.
I'm of the opinion that both of them having closed eyes was to throw players off initially and make them think they're very closely related even though they really aren't. Ranni's spirit face is incredibly similar to that of Melina's actual face, but I think that's more due to them having shared parentage
