Gta online made a fuckload, I mean a FUCKLOAD of money.
Greed. Same as what went wrong with the gaming industry as a whole. Rockstar got greedy, wanted more return on less investment, and fucked the consumer in the process.

Why would you make GTA6 when GTA5 is still making A FUCKTON of money? You run the risk of bastardizing the already wildly successful GTA5 for a GTA6 that may not reach that level of success, and 6 would ruin 5's money printing machine in the process. GTA6 has no need to exist until 5 stops making them insane amounts of money. This is also why Nintendo isn't releasing a Switch 2, nor price dropping the OG Switch.
