So far it seems to me like
>people who haven't played from games before love it
>people who have dislike it or are at least less positive about it
Is this fair?
Elden Ring
People who have played dark souls before notice the ways an open world is a detriment to the formula
Nah, lots of Souls experts love it
I personally think it's good but overrated. The open world just harms it too much
The more you play it the more obvious the flaws are, most normies play it for like 4 hours a weekend snd journalists drop it after like two bosses
People that played Souls games and quit after 10-25 minutes or who swore them off forever because OMG LIKE ISN'T THAT GAME LIKE SUPER HARD? TOO HARD FOR ME LOL are playing it now.
Retards who use Any Forums and other web forums as their basis for what normalfags play and are like are stupidly, myopically saying "Souls games were always for casual normies" in response to people saying that they're taking our Souls games from us. But these faggots are clueless. This game really is transformative for From Software and the future of Souls games. I would not expect a linear Souls game of old ever again.
Plus, as usual of open world garbage, the average person doesn't notice the padding, so it's just a glorified skybox. People that actually want to explore it are the ones that get shat on.
Now THIS is some finely crafted bait, well done sir.
yeah it's kinda only the first of many hey
for better or worse
I doubt... you could even imagine it.
>See a bunch of Skeletons guarding a corpse, kill them and find a Poisonbloom in that corpse.
That which commanded the stars.
>See a bunch of Poison Mushrooms guarding a corpse, kill them and find an Arteria Leaf in that corpse.
Giving life... its fullest brilliance.
>Go up a remote cliffside and see a clever drop with a hidden corpse next to a firecamp, find a Turtle Neck Meat in that corpse.
THE ELDEN RING!!!
>See a bunch of Bats guarding a corpse, kill them and find a Golden Rune (1) in that corpse. Exact same thing happens less than 5 minutes later.
OOOOOHHHHH, ELDEN RING!!!
>See a bunch of Highwaymen guarding a chest, kill them and find 5 Mushrooms in that chest.
Shattered...
>See a bunch of Wolves guarding two corpses, kill them and find a Glowstone and a Golden Rune (1) in those corpses.
By someone...
>See a Giant Miranda Flower and a bunch of small Miranda Flowers guarding two corpses, kill them and find an Immunizing Cured Meat and a Golden Rune (2) in those corpses.
Or something...
>See a bunch of Demi-Humans guarding a corpse, kill them and find a Hefty Beast Bone in that corpse.
Don't tell me... you don't see it...
>See a bunch of Demi-Humans guarding a corpse, kill them and find Crab Eggs in that corpse.
LOOK UP AT THE SKY!
>See a Big Land Octopus and a bunch of small Land Octopuses guarding a corpse, kill them and find a Golden Rune (1) in that corpse.
It burns...
This.
7.5/10
Good, but the second worst Soulslike
>activity is only fun is I get good loot from it
go back to borderlands
How is fighting demi-humans #346, crab #539 and land octopus #136 fun?
Or exploring the same Limgrave looking field as the one you already explored? Or the endless swamp of Liurna with the occasional same archway or crystal formations?
yeah they can't just palette change baddies who fucken does that
What? This game has more repeated trash mobs, whether literally the same or palette swapped, compared to any other Soulslike game. It's padded up the fucking gills. Cause it's open world trash.
Stop deflecting like a rat. It's not fun to fight the same mob 300+ times, and they guars trash loot on top of it. AND they're habiting reused assets over and over again.
*crickets*
His next line will be "J-j-just skip it, bro"
It's not but A) Nobody smart does that, they grab the loot and ride off on thier horse. B) The post kept listing the loot as if it mattered.
Why would you fight pointless trash mobs that are there for decoration?
>Nobody smart does that, they grab the loot and ride off on thier horse.
>J-j-just skip it, bro
Too easy
>Hurr your next line will be 'thing that destroys my argument'
Why would you defend copy pasted trash mobs that are there, as you said, for decoration of an inflated world map they don't have content actually worth a shit to fully populate and not admit it's a flaw of the game?
The game gives you trash loot for fighting the mobs, that's the game telling you to stop wasting your time on said activity.
So why is there and why are you defending its inclusion? Even the game admits it's a waste of time. How is that not a flaw?
Z
It would look wierd if they weren't there. In fact you would be complaining if they weren't there, you desperate bitch. The overworld is the thing you speed past to get to the content, that's normal for an open world. I fucking hate the open world genre by the way.
Elden Ring is okay.
Not great, not bad. Just okay. Kind of like DaS2, really.
I really hope this isn't how From are going to continue forward in designing games though. Going through the legacy dungeons made me realise that I would have enjoyed the game a lot more if it had been more tightly designed levels stitched together rather than a pointless open world. Kinda sad they went for it rather than revisiting the really great world design from DaS1; the teleporting portals in ER just feel so lazy in comparison.
>It would look wierd if they weren't there.
It looks weird that the game is a padded mess and it looks even weirder that you admit this and still defend it.
>In fact you would be complaining if they weren't there, you desperate bitch.
You mean if it was just literally empty fields? Of course I would. They're the same thing. One is just the other trying to pretend otherwise. But I sure wouldn't be complaining if they didn't inflate the map past the content worth a shit they have for it for the sake of le ebin open world meme.
>The overworld is the thing you speed past to get to the content, that's normal for an open world. I fucking hate the open world genre by the way.
Why are we even arguing with each other, then? We're on the same side.
Couldn't agree more. It's going to be open world from here on out though because normie money, and that makes me sad.
This game sold like hot cakes. There will never be non open world garbage Soulslikes from them ever again.
We are on the same side yeah. I just think you are complaining about the wrong thing, the open field would look ever worse without the trash mobs: the real problem is how boring the catacombs etc are.
No.
>Every fucking corner has unique weapons, ashes of war, spells and miracles
>Only exception is copypasted dungeons that are there literally as a "I cant beat boss yet, I need more runes to trivialize the encounter" and even then you typically get a new weapon from the boss
Yeah nice nitpicking talking only about obvious traps. I'm only at Liurnia so far having only explored 3 locations (Limgrave, Peninsula and partially Liurnia) and I have over 20 unique weapons, over 20 Ashes of War and more spells/items that I can bother sorting through. Maybe it gets worse farther in, but so far I've found like 2-3 times more things than you would in DS1/2/3 going blindly in.
The catacombs are not nearly as bad as the actual open world. In fact, even though quite a few of them suck, every time I found one I was ecstatic I was gonna get an actual mini-dungeon indtead of more copy pasted fields.
Better than DS3 but not as good as DS2.

Im having a good time. PvP needs to be fixed
[cope/persuade]: that's fine because we've already had a ton of Souls games using the same tired formula, the series might as well be over now and we can always return to the classics
The loot doesn't excuse the boring content you absolute infant. Go back to your skinner box games.

Still not funny
DS2 has far more good bosses like Sinner, Smelter, Mirror Knight, Veldstat, Ruin Sentinels, Rotten.
Casuals love it because it's big and impressive looking
when you sink your teeth into it you realize it's all very shallow, poorly designed, repetitive, and tedious
doesn't matter how new you are to the genre
Fair enough, for me I could excuse the empty overworld but when I found some actual content in the form of a catacomb and it was lacking, I was sick to death of the game.
