I beat all the dark aeons and Penance. How did I not beat the game?

Mistwalker tried something like it again with Fantasian. But every character gets their own instead of sharing them and you can freely remove and reasign points.
Which is good though considering you can't overlevel in that game and almost every boss requires a different strategy.

Eh, it is good mechanically, but the story, world, and characters are some of the worst of the franchise.

It was better than fucking 7, 8, and 9.

Will look into it, though not sharing one removes one of my favourite parts of it where you strategically open certain paths so that another character can use it.

I don't think so, unless things have changed over the years. iirc Penance and Dark Anima can't be beat, but i think someone actually did Dark Anime a while ago.
It's kinda impressive how balanced the game is that you can even do shit like that.

The story and characters are definitely not something for everyone and they often overact a bit too much.
But i think the world is one of the most realized ones Square has done yet. They put so much effort into every detail of it down to the different languages and religions and themes and the cities.

But yes it does open up, you have some optional dungeons later on, optional summons, a ton of optional super bosses and super weapons/armor for every character each for their own mini games and bosses to unlock them.

Best turn based combat in FF.

no sphere grid, no aeon, no mix is the only worthwhile bonus challenge. and less gives you an easy out, and more is just absurd

"linear" is not a point. its an observation. its equivalent to saying "this game has shops" or "you can jump." you have to explain if its needed, implemented well or not, and/or if its contributes to the overall direction of the game.
