Arlo's review was real cool cause it came from someone who doesn't even like Souls but he still expresses the universal appeals of the game.

My own.
It's pretty good. I like how it's basically Dark Souls 4 but it manages to avoid most of the pitfalls that 2 and 3 fell into for me. Capturing a strong atmosphere in its sense of exploration of a massive but densely interconnected world. The difficulty balance is all over the place depending on how much you explore or what random direction you choose to go, but there are ways to make it much harder or easier for yourself depending on your playstyle and what you want. That said, optional dungeons do get repetitive.
I like how the concept of being Tarnished "guided by grace" plays into the setting and its interactions. Tying NPCs and their motivations together, either for or against each other, in a distinct way. As opposed to just being "the chosen undead" from Dark Souls 1 again under a vaguely different name.
The horse is invaluable for making the world feel bigger without making it feel like a total chore. But outside of some fun boss fights with dragons and cavalry knights, I think the horseback combat isn't much to write home about.
The quality of life improvements, like checkpoints before bosses, are a welcome addition. Though I don't know why they seem to taper off in some areas later in the game. Trudging back through an entire no-effort dungeon just to have another whack at the high-effort boss was always the worst part of Souls games.
NPC sidequests are interesting, but still kind of bullshit in how Fromsoftware goes out of their way to make some of them so difficult to find. Which is all the worse in a world as massive as this. I can appreciate the idea of replay value and encouraging exploration, but having a little hint of what half of the continent they've moved to would be great. Also kind of wish that we could have seen more characters actually interact this time around based on their relationships.
Bloodborne might still be my favorite, but Elden Ring is a welcome mix-up to the Fromsoftware formula.

I actually did once and it was pretty hot but you'd never know in the review. I blew my load into a autoblow while recording audio and passed it off as a cough in one of my vids lmao.
