No I actually agree, western devs are much too scared to do anything too European and have gameplay that's too difficult and not as handholdy. You will literally only ever see this type of shit from Japanese companies as modern western devs will outright refuse to risk offending in anyway.

KCD did it better. fromsoft games are interesting because they mix buddhism/shinto with western aesthetic
Souls games are more or less an incoherent mishmash of themes and ideas.
It somehow works because the Japanese understand aesthetics, but it doesn't do the various European cultures justice.
These games are absolutely full to the brim with Japanese writing tropes. They had to hire a western writer to finally break away from that
I didn't think KCD was very good (personal taste, don't chimp out, I'm sure it's an actual good game), and it's also not so much mythology rather than just a straight up medieval RPG.

The thing is inspired by Europe. If you know anything about medieval history, you'd see how they just mishmash everything into this game that looks cool without any thought put into it.
At the same time westerners made ghost of Tsushima, which is not only historically accurate, but also a highly acclaimed title by the Japanese.

There's literal comparison screenshots that show they based Anor Londo off of actual cathedrals and forts, though. It's all intentional, it's not like they're trying to make a french or celt or nord only game, they're creating really nice combined packages through studying gothic and european architecture in general.

It's not because they are scared to do anything "too European" it's because they narrow the focus to a specific culture. Whereas the Japanese take aspects of many things and keep it largely vague so it's only recognizable as "broadly European". It's a bastardization and you're celebrating it just because it's Japanese.
