I found Silent Hill 3 scary at points and I played it not too long after 2. 2 feels dreary and gloomy rather than intense. Lots of mist and drizzle and blue, not much stark, threatening darkness. 3 is very red/orange and black, 2 is blue and purple.
Silent Hill 2's tone for me is strongest when it drops all vestiges from the first game and leans into inner lives. Hell, I'd probably have enjoyed the game more if it had no enemies or violence: youtu.be
2 is about walking through misty blue places while unsure about your feelings. 3 on the other hand is about walking through dark rusty places where everything wants to kill you violently.

not really, but I remember you can use a loop to let her stay put until you take care of shit. Also use the candle on her to clean her up

Apparently there is a way to kill those Ghosts in SH4 for good, and it is strange I never found any reference to it online.
What friend did: Equipped the Saint Medallion and the pickaxe.. then kept ramping max charged attacks on the spirit. I vaguely remember he needed two Medallions.
At certain point, the ghost will display a collapse animation I never seen before and gone for good.
If anyone out there can play this game now, please confirm this for me so I can have a closure that I was not hallucinating.
