They were 100% effective over the period of time they were tested. We don't have time machines to be able to measure the efficiency over 1 year+ and then come back and have the results within a couple months of the vaccine being out. As the vaccine is out in the wild, its mid and long term efficiency is assessed and reassessed based on real world data from people who took it.
