>this small part of Persona 4 was praised as great localization/translation/reference in 2008
>would be absolutely ripped apart now
What changed in 14 years?
This small part of Persona 4 was praised as great localization/translation/reference in 2008
What was the original untranslated text?
even the worst book is a thousand times better than any story of any japanese game
Don't Persona games typically get criticized for translating too literally? I at least remember Anthony Birch trannying out over 5.
You should actually read a book.
a joke about reading magical girl manga just for the cute girls
I'm pretty sure that's a different book because I remember reading that in English
The Twilight book in game is called Witch Detective so it would make sense for that one to be the magical girl manga
Shit you're right, I checked the list and there's nothing else I could have been conflating it for.
There are other reasons to read/watch magical girls?
what changed is that more people started changing shit in retarded ways so it completely soured the concept
Also localization now is much worse and more obvious about this kind of shit, which makes it more obnoxious and objectionable. That change, while still unneeded, at least doesn't make any overt political references or buzzwords (see the twewy cultural appropriation joke)
For what it's worth I thought that was a reference to actual japanse media at the time, since vampires were very popular at the time in Japan as well. I'm sure most people didn't pick up on the fact that it even was a localization change, which again, just highlights how much poorer localization is in 2008+14 since they're making goddamn references to shit like cultural appropriation or the patriarchy, things the actual japanese dialogue would obviously never do
there is a difference between making a refence work for the west vs "capitalism bad, trans rights" that is localization now
In other words this is culture war bs.
>5 "Persona 4" threads up on Any Forums
Damn P4bros, we doing good.
Depends on the show.
what changed is that now it won't be a joking pop culture reference, instead it'll be a pro-communist political statement (in a multi-billion dollar capitalist entertainment product made to be sold worldwide) or some other equally politically motivated annoyance
>localization in 2008
>ha ha isn't Twilight shitty?
>joke about contemptible pop culture replacing a joke about contemptible pop culture in Japan which may not be relevant for western audiences
>localization in 2022
>Property is theft, kiddo
>replacing innocuous dialogue that had no political slant whatsoever in the original text
Yeah, I wonder what changed in 14 fucking years other than I have a beer gut now.
It's a shill campaign for when they announce P4 2.
What?
>cultural appropriation
If you're thinking of TWEWY then it fits perfectly in that context.
>P42
you mean p4A, which has been out for several years
i'm ready for it
can adachi be the protagonist
read more books
play more games
no i meant persona 4 2
>akito's hands
>he's had them ever since he was born
ghostwire is an egregious example but holy shit I hate translators now. They have to make everything theirs now because they're too creatively bankrupt to make something themselves
