Is Final Fantasy 1 the most tactical RPG ever made for consoles?
>doesn't auto switch to a new target if one dies, requiring you to know your characters' own strengths and study the enemies so you can estimate whether to focus attacks or split them up
>(other games: lol just hold down the attack button, let the game sort it out)
>spells divided into level and only 3 can be learned per level per caster, requiring you to choose wisely
>(other games: lol here's every spell, it doesn't matter)
>limited number of spellcasts per level, must make very serious choices about what you want to use on dangerous enemy encounters and what you want to save for the boss
>(other games: lol just use an mp pot after each fight bro)
>fleeing some encounters can be a serious concern
>(other games: lol trash mobs are trash)
>some encounters can be so dangerous you might even consider rearranging your party in the event one of them needs to be sacrificed
>(other games: lol just buy 99 fenix downs)

How can other games even compete?

You forgot:
>no backrow, so if you have 2 squishies you have to pick one to have a higher chace of taking hits with no damage reduction

nah man
practically all video games ever made have these things
play a second game in your life

All that is just tedium

Tactics go out the window when you can just unga bunga with 4 Fighters.

It's boring though, NES era JRPGs have aged like doodoo.

>>limited number of spellcasts per level, must make very serious choices about what you want to use on dangerous enemy encounters and what you want to save for the boss
vancian magic fucking sucks donkey dick in video games
it's barely tolerable in dnd but at least it's designed around it

untrue. in FF1 the character on top has a 1/2 chance of being targeted, the second has 1/4 and the last two have 1/8

if a video game uses it, how would it not be designed around it?

The game literally is designed around it though, perhaps you should have gotten good.

because FF1 was a not very subtle video game adaption of dnd so they didn't bother to change much
they actually got stopped from putting literally beholders in the game which is where evil/eye is from
there's a reason they dropped spell slots like a hot potato, it sucks fucking ass in video games
at least in dnd you ostensibly have other party members to do stuff

Exactly, FFXV has the best Battle System because of this.
You can use items even at 0hp. This helped me a lot of times during my playthrough.
The game would actually be pretty difficult if you couldn't just spam items lol.

The Last of Us 2 had more comprehensive RPG elements than any Final Fantasy honestly. If you’re going to pick a single FF game as the most complex though it has to be 8. If I have to explain why you didn’t play it right.

It's not tedious if I enjoy it

I don't understand why games take DnDs spell system and think it works in a video game. In DnD you do like, one MAYBE two encounters between each rest that refills all your magic usage. In video games it just makes mages a burden you drag around for random encounters to blow their pent up fat hot loads all over the boss or you have to be a magic melee hybrid.

3 used it as well.

it has surprisingly good replayability for a game of its genre and era. recommend the GBA version though as it gets rid of spell charges and has a lot of QoL, like buying items in bulk, fixing spell glitches and it makes the fiends more challenging

>garbage game for casuals
>can use items while dead
LOL

>In DnD you do like, one MAYBE two encounters between each rest
Great job showing you've either never played it or exclusively played with lenient pussy mode DM's.

It's actually a very difficult game with lots of strategy and skill once you stop using items entirely during battle.

>nuuuu my casual trash is actually good
lol, no.

just ignore barry, user
he's not doing too well after jack's game

>magic
why?
just use 4 fighters

>Not 4 black belts
