I think I would have gone as far as calling him one of my favourite creatives.
I didn't even dislike HS because of the stupid tumblr fanbase or anything, it just didn't have the same hook or appeal that his other shit had. Its a fucking shame it somehow became his big breakout hit and effectively took over his career

I really feel like homestuck self destructing nearly singlehandedly killed webcomics in general. It was sort of an artist's artist comic where it was doing all this cool web based storytelling stuff you literally couldn't translate onto traditional print (the homestuck print editions fucking suck because of this) and you could noticeably see a significant portion of people legit try harder to elevate their comics into something better, even if not all of them hit the mark. I'd compare it to something like Eightball or Cerebus, in that those black and white indie comics really proved you could do more with traditional comics than capeshit and a lot of people tried harder. When homestuck ended the way it did it feels like people gave up and just went back to making facebook comics for normies, that's what those modern webtoons comics are.
