Why isn't netplay massively popular and what can be done to popularize playing retro games online? Is it just that too many people don't know how to rip their own ROMs?
Why isn't netplay massively popular and what can be done to popularize playing retro games online...
i don't use netplay because everytime i try it with friends, our games end up being desynced
the main appeal of retro games is not having to deal with any online infrastructure bullshit you fucking zoomer.
>"BUHHHHHH I DON'T KNOW HOW TO USE ANYTHING MADE PAST 2010 IT'S ALL THE HECKIN EVIL ZOOMERINOS FAULT!!!!!"
midwit opinion
What are some good old games to play online
I wanna try dissidia
It's a hassle to do it with Retroarch. Someone needs to make another Libretro frontend focused on netplay.
many internet providers these days don't allow port forwarding. until there's a high performance network of dedicated retroarch servers around the world there's really no point. current relay servers are garbage.
Too hard to set up for most people.
Just finished LOTR Return of the King co-op via Dolphin netplay and it was nice. I wish there were many lobbies for all games, but no.
And even if there's 50 lobbies available, 48 are playing fucking Smash or Pokémon.
@FBI
This. You need an immaculate internet connection for netplay to work and that's not something most people have
there's not a single good multiplayer game on pre ps3 systems that isnt also available on pc
nobody in their right mind wants to play those experimental piece of shit action games
Weak bait
are you fucking retarded? you do that from your modem, that isn't some service your isp offers you.
A lot of people using emulation in general are doing it for old singleplayer games, not multiplayer ones. That's kind of the first hurdle here.
Next is a lot of people have shitty internet and aren't gonna try netcode more than once when the performance'll be laggy as shit.
strong cope
For netplay to be popular for emulated games, they would have to all be under the same "umbrella" because right now it is too splintered and there are just too many games out there. The emulated games with already a dedicated netplay community (melee, NHL94, etc.), it's easier for them to make their own websites and whatnot and organize games there instead.
Also last time I played SNES games with netplay, it was honestly kind of a hassle to set up.
>multiplayer
Most of these games are fun for couch co-op not online.
I guess you can play mario party in a voice call with friends but its a very different experience than when you are all in one room together.
Has anyone tried that new steam netplay thing with emulators? Won't have any desync with that if the delay isn't too bad.
No, we don’t want to play with the entire world on our old Nintendo games. We just want good computer software that plays our old Nintendo stuff. We all know what that route means. Turning it into a service. We DON’T want it. Undoubtedly there are egotistical morons who will claim they do and must have it. Two masters, hate one love the other, you should already know the service one means slavery. And only when a service is run knowing what the people are like in freedom does a service ever have any success. We don’t want it being created by people who just love money and that was their whole intent. It’s about someone who appreciates their home and these same desires for that kind of tools so they don’t have to have the original hardware anymore.
No, most people do not want to have to rip their own roms, nor do everyone want to all decide to do it only one way like that, because it would fail. The people that can, can do that and keep roms sharing going though. There is always going to exist a legalism in connection to torrenting, pirating, and such unless you create your own government like Americans and decide what is legal and free to do and let God reward you for your works.
>the egotist who wants to play with the entire world with his game collection so he can send you to jail because he owns every Nintendo game and if he doesn’t someone will mail him it
