This idea that Adventure era fans want gritty war stories gets thrown out the window when you take into account that most enjoyed the light heartedness of Heroes and mock Shadow and 06 like everyone else. Sonic Unleashed is a fan favorite and I think that is more indicative of what Adventure era fans want out of these stories more than whatever parody you've chosen to believe. They want Sonic to be shonen, it's really that simple.
