I just realized that Halo is just Starship troopers but not satire
I just realized that Halo is just Starship troopers but not satire

not really. The aliens in halo are a lot more complex and human than the aliens in starship troopers.
Starship Troopers: Terran Command next month. Get hype.
And as for the
>le satire
point. Starship Troopers and Halo are effectively the same in that they're both relatively honest depictions of the virtues and strengths of a practical, purpose-oriented warrior-society. Starship Troopers is only an anti-war film in that Verhoeven was *HOPING* you would come away feeling like he did. Nothing within the film is biased against war. He didn't explicitly make an anti-war film. He made an honest war-film and HOPED you would come away from this thing seeing folly rather than glory. But being an exceptionally honest man who believes his own ideals don't need a helping hand, he portrayed both sides of the war experience pretty evenly. And what do you know, most people will always think war is pretty fucking awesome.
Starship Troopers is an anti-war film only in the sense it brings the war, and you *can* bring the anti-reading out with you if you want. There are as many valid readings of the film as there are audience members.
Halo also presents war pretty straight, folly, glory, horror, and you can take from that what pleases you. Is the Master Chief's spartan-upbringing awesome or disgusting? Bungie aren't going to call it either way. If you read Fall of Reach it's quite obvious that Starship Troopers the novel was the biggest inspiration for the setting, while Starship Troopers the movie coloured the playable action.
God I hope the new game turns out good. Demo was fun.
Update: I just learned immediately after writing this post that Terran Command has been delayed by two months. FUCK.
what's bottom left and middle left with the old dude
> Some of Starship troopers still holds up
Jesus Christ, how? There are movies released now that aren't even par with this movie made in the 90s when it comes to special effects. How the hell did this movie pull this off?
its time to admit that starship troopers completely fails as """"satire""""
old dude is Archie Bunker, bottom left is 'Look Who's Back', a German movie about Hitler appearing in the 21st century. Archie Bunker was meant to be a kind of libtard piss-take on reactionary old lower class men, but everyone loved him.
Its budget was massive. It's about the peak of movie-scale while still maintaining an artisan's touch.
>but not satire
No, Halo 1 was star ship troopers with satire. Halo 2 had some satire but also wanted to make an original story. Halo 3 was pure unironic hero and it was cinematographic kino
>Starship troopers but not satire
So, Starship Troopers the book
Also,
>I just realized that Halo is just Starship troopers
I was told that Any Forums was real small brained but this is just ridiculous
Halo is the Starship Troopers OVA but not anime.
if starship troopers is satire, it's a terrible satire that has no understanding of what it's trying to critique.
Why are Any Forums meme painfully unfunny?
FUCK THEM BUGS
People who pretend to be into this shit just because it "triggers" people have no actual personality.
Yet still, Verhoven's movie is so much more fun and it's not even a gayme.
How did the dutch bastard did it bros. Even the CGI still stands the test of time.
Are mutt directors really that shit
On an unironic level, I never understood the "you missed the point" argument. Most people understood it, but think they're cool. So he's fine in my book.
Patrick Bateman is a handsome dude with rich tastes, rich fashion sense, and a big bank account that gets all the women. Even though his character is satirical, am I not supposed to want any of those characteristics? Patrick is cool, that's all that I need to root for someone.
Turd muttbrain post detected
You mean star craft
So it's Starship Troopers?
verhoeven didn't even read starship troopers, he literally created a satire of what he thought the novel was about rather than what it was actually about (mostly a stereotypical coming of age story but scifi)
The director responsible for bringing Patrick Bateman to the screen does not share your view of Patrick Bateman.
You are more like Patrick BaitMan, because you've been baited into revealing that you're a retarded sociopath.
Besides, Patrick Bateman would watch American Psycho and understand the satire, whereas you're some dumbass who went to a state school, if at all.
are you under the impression that directors write the movies they make?
They direct the movies they make
directing isn't art.
I like the movie and the book except the chapter where Heinlein soapboxes corporal punishment
That made me a bit hard.
Man, you know a movie is good at satire when the people its mocking can't even tell.
its not even a chapter its like 2 pages
So what's your point, OP? That Halo is pro-fascist? How can you justify enjoying it then? Society must be beyond fucked since it's so popular, right?
actually even 2 pages is a stretch. Maybe 5 paragraphs in total.
The whole movie is the equivalent of taking something someone said and repeating it in a silly voice. The movie's pretty silly, sure, but that's what it is, a silly movie. At no point does it "debunk" the book.
Also featuring Clancy Brown.
Play EDF
IIRC the chapter exists solely to frame the conversation between Rico and (?), and it's an aside that doesn't serve the story at all.
Congrats on the debt, fag XD
Bet you were told that philosophy degree at Vandy was gonna really improve your understanding of the world.
Not really. Halo is Aliens mixed with Christianity.
Has there ever been any other book adaptations by people who haven't even read the book?
>The director responsible for bringing Patrick Bateman to the screen does not share your view of Patrick Bateman.
That's fine. I don't need him to agree with me to appreciate Patrick Bateman. Once again, am I not supposed to want to be rich, handsome, muscular, obsessively selfcare for my skin, fashionable, or charismatic because it's satirical?
>because you've been baited into revealing that you're a retarded sociopath.
There's nothing wrong with wanting to be like Patrick, outside of the murder parts. He's self obsessed with himself to look his best, you should as well.
>inb4 that's superficial
Yeah, but we live in a world where superficial first impressions are important. Let's not pretend you don't dress up for certain people as well.
Well, I mean, the director flat out admitted that its satire, and so did the screenwriter, and its "intentionally designed" to be the book's total opposite, so...
Nobody tell him about Larry Niven
I like that this is a right wing counter to the left wing cyberpunk one but instead of uncreatively copying the format like it goes from right to left all the time effectively skewers the core belief while adding detail and quality here when we go from left to right.
Once again proving: the left can't meme.
