The more time you spend talking about vidya, the less time you have to play vidya. This extends to social media on the whole. Don't go on YouTube. Disconnect wi-fi often. If you need a guide for a harder game then download it to a file beforehand. It's that easy. Any Forums is bad in particular because this place has a crab-bucket mentality towards non-FOTM games.
>Step 2: Plan Your Approach
There are tons of ways to do this but what matters is that you lay out a literal game plan. When did you buy/pirate these games? Are they long/short, easy/hard, simple/complex? Priority is the key. If you're already partway through games, it is crucial to do those first. Personally I like to go by purchase history. Newly bought game, older one, in-between. Whatever you do, don't have a "fallback" game you've already beaten. That's not good.
>Step 3: Actually Play the Fucking Games
Don't idle in menus. Don't pore over achievement lists. Single-player always comes before MP. Even in-game you will waste time in specific ways, like checking stats. Move forward always. EXAMPLE: If you are grinding in a JRPG, never check your EXP. Get back to grinding. If you get bored, switch games or drop the one you're on. Don't be a completionist.
>Step 4: Make it Routine
You'll get to where you get out of bed and it's like you're a kid again: Straight to gaming. But only if you stick to it. Unironically, playing video games can be tough to uphold. Don't ever be afraid to add new games to the backlog. Don't even worry about the backlog. Because when it's routine you can experiment and still keep beating more games.
>TL;DR if you want to clear your backlog you need to stop browsing Any Forums, make an offline list of games you want to beat, and actually commit to it instead of letting the "backlog curse" wear you down
I actually go on Any Forums because I'm trying to play less video games
Josiah Davis
I removed every game I wasn't interested in from my Steam library, 792 games. Over the past three years, I've not bought a single video game and have instead only played the remaining 15 games. It's been a lot of fun, and now I'm working on the games of franchises I started out of those 15 that I enjoyed. >DELETE YOUR STEAM GAMES >START ANEW
Caleb Lopez
but what if i have crippling depression and no motivation to do anything, let alone game?
Jeremiah Myers
best way to clear a backlog is to not have one. if a game isn't good enough to make me to play it when i get it, then it's not worth my time.
Mason Foster
Why delete if you can just make category "not interested" or something
Jackson Morris
>Get off you're ass >Write list of games on a sheet of paper with a pen/cil >Start to game
Simple as

Because I can always bring them back if I decide to revisit it, but I like not seeing them in my library or my Steam profile. Before I buy a game, I always check the Steam support tab first to see if I got it in some humble bundle years ago.
Aiden Martinez
I have actually taken this advice, played 30 hours of ff13 in the last 3 weeks. My issue is my family treating me like the errand boy and I literally don't have the time that I probably should
Caleb Edwards
Then the backlog isn't the problem, the persistent neglect of your mental and physical faculties are.
Jaxon Smith
You can bring them back for free?
Tyler Gonzalez
You probably expect them to treat you like the errand boy and schedule your day to prepare for that. I was the same way when I started my job. I didn't have set hours, work just comes in at random, so I got paranoid about starting a gaming session in case a lot of orders arrived. You have this mindset and need to retool the way you structure your day to be in spite of errands rather than begrudgingly waiting for them.
Luis Walker
Yes, when you "permanently" remove a game from Steam, you can still restore it at any time from the Steam support pages if you remember you have it.
Easton Lewis
Just put some into the secondary backlog.
Jaxon Reed
Maybe just also accept that you don't need to play/finish a game if it sucks shit.
I was making tremendous progress on my backlog until Elden Ring came out and now I'm playing Elden Ring every non-work hour I have like I'm a kid.
