Also asking because I want to make a cool and fun game where you play as a mimic but not necessarily a chest.
A mimic named Zanzibart that gains sentience...
What would a game with a Mimic chest protagonist be like?

Cool idea for a thread. Shame it's only an insincere shitpost.
Don't worry, I'm here to save the thread

Ok I'm sorry I am sincere I just thought another Zanzibart joke would be funny
eh the plot is sort of generic but I'm downloading it thanks user

oh trust me, the passion stage for a game can be very genuine. the problem is when trying to realize the dream/idea and realizing gamedev is extremely difficult and rigorous. you can still treat this as a simple discussion. a writing contest for a game plot.
You're a mimic alien taking the role of people while jailing them but eventually have to release them and move on to the next place. You get sick of causing grief so you want to live as an original being, but that proves to be a huge challenge for someone who was only able to mimic until now.
crawl?
Puzzle game in which the mimic must use various transformations to trick people and monsters into approaching it
How would you do that?
Huh?
this game right here
other players control the monsters against a single player
if a player loses their monster they can still "haunt" the room's objects to grief the human
just mentioning it because the object haunting thing, something similar could be done for a Mimic
the player chooses what kind of object they want to be and grief their opponents with it
It will be a 3d platformer with wall running and bopping music with Tim Burton style moonlit world with a desaturated color palette
very trippy NPCs
1/2
2/2
This is so cool. I'll play it.
Who would the mimic even fighting or avoiding?
jesus christ, the artifacts in your pic
Idk how that would work other than something similar to carrion
It would be mostly context-sensitive. Each puzzle has its own setting, and each puzzle opponent requires its own particular lure. Some puzzles are simple sit-and-wait types, while others involve manipulating the set pieces like traps or treasure. If we're dead-set on not doing ye olde mimic cheste, then there can be a wide variety of transformation options. You'll unlock more transformations every few levels, which in turn provides new and fun solutions to previous puzzles.
The final boss would be another mimic. Upon meeting each other in their true forms, the two mimics fall in love and proceed to make an army of mimic babies so large that they're capable of taking over the world. The final cinematic would involve a human army finding a suspicious arrangement of treasure chests in an open field, only to be ambushed and slaughtered by the mimic army.
Fucked up the spoiler
It would need to be a pointNclick adventure, if you make it an RPG, you will either need to make tons of enemies and each one is a boss you gotta figure out or it will be just boring grind on lesser enemies to level up, considering combat can't really exist, you either get the kill or your target kills you/flees
Horrifying. I love it.
Anyone here read "Everybody loves large chests"?
Shit was fun but I never finished it honestly, needed better direction, ended up being way too long with whole arcs that amounted to nothing
Maybe a game where you play as a dungeon master and use mimics to trick NPC explorers? Like you get a dungeon layout and have to set it up with units in such a way to stop the explorers from making it to the end?
Or a game spy game where you transform into items to hide into environments to avoid being caught (with one of the transformations being a treasure chest).
