How to properly balance an RPG that features both firearms and melee?
How to properly balance an RPG that features both firearms and melee?
Library of Ruina
you cant. guns are just inherently not RPG weapons
working pathfinding / traversal for one
having melee enemies be unable to climb the rock you're standing on and just run around it taking hits is garbage broken game design
looking at you new vegas
Proper balance is a meme
Just don't put obviously broken garbage in the game
tarkov way
Like you ever need to do that in New Vegas or Fallout 3 lmoa
These games give you so much broken weapons/consumables that you never need to exploit the AI
It comes down to balancing the environments. Guns should dominate open spaces, while melee should dominate close quarters. Melee fags get options for either armor or evasion, while gun fags get access to a spectrum of small-to-large guns.
Have firearms be used to hit weak points and stun them. Use melee to go in to hit them
get rid of melee
Bulletproof shields
Have some areas/enemies that have range where you have to use guns, maybe spec DEX/STR into a melee block ability to get close
Have some areas/enemies that have good defense against ranged so you have to get close, maybe spec INT/WIS into shotguns/explosives to overcome
Gee that was hard
You dont. Guns will always be OP against melee.
melee is more viable the more you allowed to lock a ranged in place
its a shame many games refuse to have some sort of grappling
Dark Forces 2 and Jedi Outcast had perfect melee counters to guns and ranged.
Deflect bolts, stronger ability lets you reflect back at attacker
Force push projectiles away, stronger ability lets you push more back at once
Speed to dodge instakill sniper fire
Force shield to straight up block ranged damage
What's the point of using guns then?
SW the only scifi setting where melee actually makes sense.
Only force sensitive people can effectively use a lightsaber without killing themselves so its not really an option for the mass majority.
faggot
limited ammo
>playing vanilla
underrail is pretty well balanced
