Nah, total bullshit. Air Ride was a Sakurai game, and blatantly ignored an entire cast of characters for more of his bias. It's why the same trio is the only playable representation of Kirby in all of Smash.
Not to mention Fighters 2 and Battle Royale both failing to use enough characters, instead opting for Copy Ability prioritization and cheap costumes.

Never seen that one myself, but assuming there was enough time between Robobot's release and Smash Ultimate reveal, that kind of pettiness sounds entirely plausible.

Galaxia Darkness was my favorite from the Kirby characters final smashes. I will never forgive Sakurai if that was the reason he changed it.
