I tried him on foot a couple of times when I first started but at that point it felt like it would just take forever to whittle his health down so I stopped. Then came back when I was level 18 and had Torrent and a greatsword+1 and beat him in 3 tries. The time I beat him I only had to use one flask due to having my attack timing and his moveset down pretty good. I thought it was a fun fight and not particularly hard and I'm not a great player by any means.

Take a game like Sekiro. It forces you into using the limited moveset to viscerally take down a boss in a melee duel to the death. In Elden Ring, theres a million things to sidestep this shit, it isn't hard at all if you choose to use these options.
