I struggled to put my frustration with it in words but one comment on reddit said it best.
It's like FromSoft is fucking mad people are figuring out their games so they add the most stupid obnoxious bullshit to fuck them over even more. If you play DS1 and then ER it's like night and fucking day with how these games play.
>most bosses are now ninja spinning delayed anime attack beyblades that deal 1/3 of your HP with 50 Vigor >regular enemies have obnoxious moves and attacks like the grafted/revenants that do the fucking arm flurry rush that grinds even the tankiest characters >the fucking delayed attacks have been memed to no end even by biggest normies because they are so fucking obnoxious and obvious now >there is absurdly blatant input reading from enemies, they react frame perfectly with perfect attack to you drinking flask, some gifs and webms show lions jumping like retards BEHIND THE WALL because you use a spell
All it does it makes the combat feel artififcial. I am not fighting a legendary warrior. I am fighting the devs trying to fuck me over.
And let's not stop at enviromental puzzles. In DaS1, you had a sniper that shot slow arrows you could react to easily if you were paying attention, in ER the arrows are 10 times faster, are homing on you like they are developed by some US secret military program, fucking explode in nukes on hit and enemies shoot three of them at once so that you don't get too fucking lucky with your roll.
Honestly NOTHING is truly FUN in this game. The only fun i had is the sense of discovery at the beginning and exploration. I felt like an adventurer, but the honeymoon period is fucking over and all that's left is frustrationi. And not even exploration is rewarding because the world is so obviously rushed, nonsensical and has dumb as fuck lore where story relevant bosses are for some reason re-used in a completely random side cave. What the fuck went wrong?
It's almost as if a later game in a series expects you to be a bit better at basic game mechanics.
I enjoyed most of the time I spent with ER, it's certainly not the best Souls game, but it's hardly the worst.

>tl;dr: each FromSoft game instead of surprising the player with new and interesting things only doubles down on their usual tactics and create a power creep where players who are already used to formula need to be provided with consistent challenge >it leads to ridiculous scenario as in Dark Souls you had maybe one archer shooting a slow arrow at you but in ER now it's two ballistas shooting exploding arrows that are 10 times as fast, are homing on you and it's all while you are slowly moving through a rot swamp with a blight that deals 10 times more damage than poison

>tl;dr >posts essay I'm not in the mood for reading all that shit nigger

thats what u get when u get the sekiro boss designer to design bosses and enemies for a completely different combat system. it just doesnt work. without the exploration aspect i honestly would have rated the game a 5/10. bosses are, generally, the worst in the series, though many would have been good had they been in sekiro.

DS1 and ED are nothing alike you should have said BB or DS3 you stupid fuck.

Git gud stop getting hit. Its your fault if you take damage. Every attack is avoidable

Well said, OP. It's sad honestly.

There's ABSOLUTELY nothing wrong with upping the stakes and actions in your series.
Nobody wants a series of 8 slow dungeon cralwers using gimmicks and tricks to fight bosses Elden Ring is pure spectacle and action and that's fine because From can support that with great boss and enemy design
The issue is that the combat is not evolving fast enough Elden Ring is the equivalent of Resident Evil 6 but the players still use fixed camera and have RE1 capabilities
The delay attacks aren’t that bad, react to the swing instead of the upswing. I’m way more annoyed by endless combos, like the Halbred knight in Stormveil
>charges up his wind laser >spins FIVE times >also has a combo finisher for the end
You literally just have to stand far away from him, you can’t block it and rolling away on reaction is bad too since at that point the attack does 40%+ of your HP on every hit. Just insanely powerful for no fucking reason
Their damage numbers on general need tweaking. Why is a lobster or a crab dealing more damage and have more HP than most early game bosses? Why does a revenant have a 30 hit combo when each hit does 30%? Why are enemies able to hit you on the ground when you can only sometimes do the same? It’s outright unfair in this game how the enemies have triple the HP and infinite stamina/poise. The game isn’t insanely difficult, but it IS unfair against powerful mobs and many bosses
I’m not sure what else From can even do if they still want to make the next Souls game even more difficult

>Demons's Souls comes out and there was some rejoicing >Dark Souls 1 comes out and there was much rejoicing >Dark Souls 2 comes out and the world is at peace >Bloodborne comes out and it's not as good as 2 >Dark Souls 3 comes out and it's not as good as 2 >Sekiro comes out and it's different and fun, but not as purely fun as 2 >Elden Ring comes out and it's not as good as 2
They really put lightning in a bottle back in 2014, didn't they?
>mage faggot tries to talk about combat design Kill yourself.
RE6 with RE1 camera and controls would be just as trivial.
Oliver Jackson
the crux of the problem is that the dark souls combat system is way too simple, so the only way to make the games challenging now is to add more and more bullshit. elden ring 2 will have enemies delaying their attacks for a full minute while having doubled hp bars and every attack oneshots you. fromdrones will still defend it, obviously.
Thomas Gutierrez
It did reach a point where it got really fucking excessive. I don't know if I'd call it flanderization or if this is just genuinely straight up how the devs want to make the games now and they're conscious of it, but after all three Souls plus Sekiro, playing Elden Ring just gives me ridiculously strong feelings of it no longer being the kind of difficulty I find fun. Especially when so many parts of the game are fucking disjointed to shit. It's just tenuously held now by the string of Good Bossfights, except sometimes now From are also fucking up those fights and it's really showcasing how so much else regarding the games from a gameplay standpoint is just a massive pile of dung.
Adrian Campbell
Wait wait wait
Did you just show support for anor londos bullshit?!?
Elden ring is dope. HA

SeeAll Elden Ring needs is for players to have more tools Hyperarmored attacks, dodge attacks, parry, shield bash to punish delayed attack and stagger bosses,... If it had this it would be one of the best action oriented ARPGs but From can't into more dodge/block/parry/rolling + attack + gimmick attack I would have rather got this than jump attacks or jump at all, which I generally don't like as implementation
>>mage That system is built to support all classes and weapon pairs It would give STR builds far more tools with hyperarmor

>that "good and fun" system is just dragon's dogma The weirdest part of this Elden Ring experience is seeing how many people are shilling Dragon's Dogma.
The only good and memorable part of DD was the Into Free song. The rest of the game was the absolute definition of "7/10, it was okay", especially the combat, and especially whenever you talk about the combat and the person you're talking to immediately backpedals and goes "Ah, well, you have to play THIS class, then it's fun."
Jack Garcia
It's like From is horrified of running into another Havel's Armor situation so they fuck all defensive options players have. I didn't find a single crafted item in the game outside of the Ironjar Aromatic [bless the Ironjar Aromatic] that felt like it had any fucking effect worth a damn. The stupid physick bottle has five dozen million tears you can stuff into it, and yet they all feel absolutely inconsequential in 9 out of 10 cases and like the definition of "too little, too late".
Matthew Jackson
I can understand putting 2 over 3 but it's some weak bait thinking 2 is better than BB any day
