Is a melee weapon in every game

HL2 made it so the gun could be used from a distance and you could actually defend your turf with it

Maneuvering into point-blank range so you can transform your enemy's entire torso into confetti is immeasurably more satisfying than "accurately" using the shotgun from 100 feet away like a baby

Continue to be mad if you wish, but Naughty Dog knows how to do shotguns.

of course they do, its the weapon of choice for 40% of you.

Jesus fucking Christ. Did anyone ever stop and think that video games are going too far with gore?

It's the tortured expressions in their faces that gets me.
Gore is fine in cartoonist styles, like TF2

"I may have gone too far in a few places."

Seriously. That and the crawling on the ground and cradling his knee after you blow his leg off makes me genuinely uncomfortable.
At least when something like COD WAW did intense gore like that, it was to show the horrors of war. This just feels like torture porn.
>Gore is fine in cartoonist styles, like TF2
Agreed.

>too far
no, we have to go further i want my war games to show the cruelty of combat instead of this cartoonish shit we usually get.
inb4 psycho, edge etc
lol

I have to admit it's impressive for a game to do that, but that's disgustingly grotesque.

Just go hunting, bro.

Pussies

For me? It's the m60

Increasing gunshot realism in games will likely have the following effects;
1) turn people off because it's way too traumatizing to see people, even video game characters, screaming in pain as they go in shock or slowly bleed out from wounds
2) out the psychopaths who who aren't bothered by it at all

In either case, the backlash will cause developers to tone the realism and gore down, though violence in video games will almost certainly never be totally eliminated because people like shooting things. Demons and invading aliens will always be fair game.

Tlou2's combat is amazing but they really should've added a survival mode like they did for Uncharted 4, replaying encounters just doesn't cut it and I really do not want to replay the story

Or maybe most people can seperate the real world from a video game?

imagine a fallout-esque game with this kind of detail. that would be so cool.

Despite how broken the rest of the game is, Rising Storm 2 has the best weapon balance of any game in recent years.

I like gore but this seems psychopathic.

I laugh my ass off at cartoony gibs but I think the webms of this game are just grisly.

we'll get that multiplayer ludo soon enough

Kafkaesque, am i right?

>the backlash will cause developers to tone the realism and gore down
Because congressional hearings in the 90s stopped Mortal Kombat from having gore.

Violence in games like God of war or blood were mean to entertain and maybe laugh a bit. This just seem straight out of a sick person's head.

We should have just stopped at Gears of War levels.

Mortal Kombat doesn't even attempt to be realistic depictions of gore. Even with characters that are literal edited photos of people, its just so over the top and obviously shooped that no one can see it as grisly.
Taking time to code detailed gore mechanics into your game is an entirely different approach.

Payday 2 has great shotguns, but they have the opposite problem from most vidya shotguns. They do great damage at decent range, but every single pellet does full damage, so one pellet hitting a target is the same as five. Therefore the optimal thing to do is put on weapon mods that increase spread so you can hit multiple enemies in one shot because any more than one pellet hitting is a waste. At least that's how it worked a few years ago when I played. I think they eventually changed it.

>anons being grossed out by this
What? What do you think happens when you shoot someone? Its nowhere near as bad as anything MK has ever done.

Nah, only in Doom 3

Gore is never too far.

rising storm 2 vietnam, can get shotgun kills well over 100m away on the regular

Why are movies allowed to get away with it? There's far more brutal shit in 80s films then in any modern vidya.

And that's a good thing, I fucking love shotguns in games that promote getting close and personal.

Play some RS2.

Nope.

Modded Stalker has shotguns with pretty realistic range and they're absolutely awesome to shoot. Doom has a pretty long ranged shotgun and it's one of the best guns in gaming history. Shotguns with longer range are great in video games

Nothing wrong with shotguns being more effective at close range, but they shouldn't be firing blanks when the target is ten meters away from you. DOOM 1 (the original) is the way to do shotguns.
