Metal slug pixel graphics were pieces of art

Since pixel art has become a meme among indie devs, I'm honestly shocked at how few games have even tried to match (or surpass) Metal Slug's level of quality.

Indie devs do pixel art because it's "easier" without understanding any of the artistry behind pixel art. The whole reason they use it is to get away with low quality graphics, so there's no way in hell they'd spend time learning to do pixel art like that, let alone animated.

You need a team of underpaid slave workers that don't even get credited.

It's not even that hard. The gif in probably uses only around 10 different colors and is fewer than 20 individual frames.

If that's your definition of best pixel art then your standards are incredibly low

It's decent, but if that's the example you want to use, then it looks downright amateur compared to something like Owl Boy

There's a hint of something good there. Unfortunately it's a looting/crafting game and that just ensures the action is boring and repetitive.

The gif you posted may be my favorite sprite character ever created. A true masterpiece of the medium. Now excuse me while I play Metal Slug 3 again...

Reloading wasn't the problem at all, the problem was all the fucking grinding and bad level design.
