It is a sequel but it's also set far into the future. For all intents and purposes, Aionios is a new world and follows a completely new cast of characters and has its own self-contained story to tell. Yeah you have retuning characters such as Melia and Nia, but enough time has passed and enough context is missing for said characters to almost be as new as returning players as they are to actual newcomers.

Just started Xenogears for the first time. My hope is to play through all the xeno games before Xc3 comes out. I was really surprised at how dark it starts out. Not just in what happens but more so the conversations and themes that already are being brought up like 3 hours in.
