There are NPCs like Hyetta and Shabriri that will lore dump you on the three fingers. There are also like 10 madness spell descriptions that help piece it together.

they genuinely fucking don't. shabriri goes on about sacrificing myself for my maiden which also isn't really elaborated on why every maiden seems to have to burn themselves for their tarnished or why these three fingers exist soley for that purpose. and now that you've mentioned it I now question why the fuck the flame of frenzy even fucking HELPS the tarnished since it established with the item set that the fucking MERCHANTS are the ones that made the damn thing. literally every piece of information conflicts with eachother and nothing attempts to explain anything
