bitch I would rather play Mario Odyssey

Nintendo hate people doing anything with their games but especially people doing something good with them.

When will they add environment geometry?

They'd sooner DMCA him then fine him millions of dollars.

>you now remember mario royale threads on Any Forums

Mario royale was the most blatant "DMCA fangame than steal the idea" maneuver Nintendo ever did
Could argue AM2R as well but I assume that was more a conflict of interests and they already have the 3DS game in development

They released a few a week or so ago. Devs are fucking autistic about collision being that same though so these levels are fucked. You have a lot of places in JRB that look like like you should be able to walk there but you can't.
Ignore the SMO HUD, I was testing two mods in one build.

Ohh that looks like it could have potential

Finally, BoB. Wasn't loading with the Ray tracing mod for some reason but it shows they're working on their own lighting.

This project ironically looked better when it was only a couple of model changes and lighting changes.

Artificial soul
Still soulless garbage

That looks fucking terrible

I kind of see what they're trying to do but god do those rock walls look awful. I'm guessing they added those background cliffs to make the spiky rocks not look so thin and maybe give it more of a Zora's Domain/Noki Bay type vibe but it just looks bad. They should've just put more effort into giving the spiky rocks more actual shape and depth, maybe make them more mountain-like or something.

They've made some fucking weird creative choices. Here they've added a hole to the ship which makes the floating look awkward and they've removed the seaweed/algae from the planks which you'd think goes against the entire point of adding detail.

This mod looks so fucking awful

It seems they don't have anyone who's skilled at designing and modeling actual environments on their modeling team. They're damn good at making character models and have the N64 era render models down to a tee, but everything I've seen out of the level remodels just looks misshapen, blobby and thrown together. I guess they can just go with the excuse with "Well it kinda looks like a 90's render, right?" but I've seen much better stuff from that time.

I know it's a bit after the time they're going for, but they should really deeply look at and analyze stuff like the GameCube Peach's Castle tech demo and Melee's interpretation of Rainbow Ride, Peach's Castle, Mushroom Kingdom (Adventure Mode) for this stuff, the same way they analyzed the character modeled. Melee's art style for Mario stuff is really just the N64 render style with slightly more realistic textures if you think about it.

Definition of soulless
Nintendo won't let this stand anyway

I like that they're trying to go for the pre-rendered look but in practice it just looks fucking awful from these screen shots.
Any webms of actual gameplay?

Like I said before it looked better when they weren't making shitty models and just changing the lighting and some small stuff like Mario and Bowser's models

I am a big proponent of the "NINTENDO HIRE THIS MAN" meme but these screenshots look seriously amazing. They look exactly how the game should look in the style of the prerendered art of the time and that is the peak version of Mario in my opinion.

Yeah, I agree with that assessment.
