It depends on the context of where you make that information public and how having a genderbent PC allows you to play.
But if you allow that to become a main feature of your personally it becomes "cringe", because it may seem like you're trying to hard to "be a woman" (as people here like to call it, which is in itself another topic).
Creating opposite gender characters can help you develop some of the emotions or thinking associated with that other gender. Like how it is expected most of the time for females to be the empaths and males the rational thinkers.
It can also help you understand what attracts you more to females, specially if its an RPG with lots of customization. I currently have a gf, but that doesn't stop me from creating female characters that are ideal to all of my preferences or to develop character ideas for storytelling.
I personally don't bring much attention to my character's gender until asked the fine details, sometimes you may start with an interesting idea or background, develop that idea and after having the core concept you autofill whatever is left of the PCs info.

Yes it's weird, but I've done it for practicality sake before. Elden Ring being the most recent example. I've been building a pure support character and the deathbed dress is a part of that. Obviously, it looks retarded on males so I swapped over to female.
