Wasn't the Smash scene's whole point of pride about how they did things on their own without Nintendo? Anyways, it's understandable for Nintendo not to give them too much limelight considering how notorious they are for the lack of showers (very noticeable with that Hbox pic) and rampant kiddy diddling.

The funny part is, this whole complaining about Smash being pulled from evo is because Nintendo is now paying attention to the smash community. They signed an exclusive partnership with Panda Global to run official tournaments. If the smash didn't complain Nintendo would have continued not caring, but now they are being hands on.

The thing with Nintendo is that they want all of the control and money that comes from esports, but they don't want to put in any of the effort and expect the community to do it for them.

Capcom released a new policy that requires TOs to sign up to get approved before they can host any capcom fighting game at their grassroots tourneys. People overreacted and threw a fit online. The guy who runs NLBC literally just filled out the form and got a response in a day without having to pay anything because his tournament is a weekly and the payout is small. The only people who probably have to pay money are the CEO/Evo's of the world, who were probably already working closely with capcom anyways.

Nintendo on the other hand signed a deal with Panda Global and has threatening to forcing grassroots TOs to drop Smash because they are going to create an official smash circuit.

That only works for Riot because no one can match their playerbase numbers. Having full control over shit like Street Fighter matters next to nothing when it's such a niche franchise.
