Final Fantasy 7 Remake

Maybe it's "nostalgia" but I played the original a year ago and going through this now, the characters and dialogue just feel very flanderized and the pacing is so bad. I've been trying to go into it with an empty mind but maybe it's the whole my interpretation was completely off from the creators interpretation and them making it more to their vision is just stirring me off. I think the only character that feels generally on point is Cloud. Although I do feel that they expose his dorkiness a little too much compared to the original where he kept quiet a good chunk of the time.

Trying to look at a non bias view, am I being nit-picky about it or did anyone feel this disonnence between the remake and original?

And the ghost shit is honestly so fucking bad.

I played this one before the original and I can tell you it's not bias, remake is legitimately shit.

I don't hate it so far but it feels more like the American Hollywood adaptation of FF7R.

Bump

>Maybe it's "nostalgia" but I played the original a year ago and going through this now, the characters and dialogue just feel very flanderized and the pacing is so bad.
Yeah, it is nostalgia.
/thread

I mean is it really?
For example
>Cloud
Less of a jerk to the cast compared to the original
"Cares" about going against Shinra when he literally doesn't give a fuck in the original
Doesn't really get into fights with Barret
Nicer to Tifa
Cloud generally butted heads with Barret without backing down, here he kinda backs down.
>Barret
Less unhinged, in the train scene he starts going crazy while he's more tame in the remake. Doesn't get into fights with Cloud as often. More passionate about the goal rather than in the original where he's a lot more cult like and just screams at anyone who tells him otherwise because of his coping mechanism.

FF7R was my second FF I've ever played after XV, after XV I gave up on the series and only picked up 7R because it was literally free and I had nothing better to do.
I enjoyed it very much and now I'm playing X, after I finish it I will probably check out VIII but this time on PC because there was some retarded shit in X like fucking chocobo racing or dodging lightning 200 times in a row

I played the original like a couple months before the remake and while I definitely loved the original more, I still thought the remake was fantastic and I thought the characters were absolutely spot on

The part of this they nailed for me was the music. I didnt beat it because as I drew closer to the end of midgard I knew the journey would stop there despite me having all these memories of soooooo much more. It was fun for the most part but I wont be getting any further parts on release. Just let me know when the full collection or whatever edition comes out.

Same person here, honestly, all in all I consider it a really enjoyable standalone experience. Both versions are really great and worth your time and I loved all the throwbacks in the remake. The music was fucking amazing, too. I just really loved them both as separate experiences altogether and I'm frankly glad the direction they went. Well, so far I am. We'll see what the future brings

Huh

The original wasn't that great in the first place but yes, the pacing is the remake sucks.
Pointless filler shit because they want to make a 30 hour game into a 100+ hour game.
Impossible to do without bloat.

On the plus side, I feel like we're getting to know the characters better. Their personalities really shine through in the remake. Except Tifa. She still sucks

>Less unhinged, in the train scene he starts going crazy while he's more tame in the remake.
i thought you said they were flanderized
do you know what flanderized means

My experiences talking with people about the original told me that they didn't really pay much attention to Tifa and Aeris's personalities, and the Remake did a good job of putting them more fully on display. In particular, it's always been quite baffling to me that so many people's image of Aeris in particular is of a demure maiden. Much harder to come off of the remake with that impression.

Overall, I quite liked the script/dialogue and the ways they expanded the setting of Midgar. What they're doing with the main narrative is not to my taste and is so painfully Nomura, but I can tolerate it for the time being in deference to the things I enjoy.

I thought their characterization was pretty good in the Remake. Keep in mind that we don't even leave Midgar in the game, so none of them can actually leave their "first impression" behind until the next part or so.

Yeah he's a daddy man now.

This explains why it got such an odd positive reception. The shilling was irritatingly obnoxious and to this day these shills will still claim the game was good when it clearly wasn't.

Tifa was a bit too whiney for my taste amd Barret should have punched Wedge a lot more

How is barret being a daddy man, which only happens when hes with marlene and literally nowhere else, a flanderization?
Again, do you know what a flanderization is?
Let me give you an example
In the original barret is loud and angry but also has moments of being a good person with marlene. However, people only remember barrer being loud and angry.
A flanderization of barret would be making him loud and angry in every situation. pretty much removing his personality traits and only making him what people remember about him, rather than a character with thoughts and feelings that adapt depending on the situation, which is how human beings work.
Which is, by the way, the entire contrary to what happened to barret in the remake. I will take it a step further and Barret in the original is a flanderization of the remake.

I dropped it about 10 hours in, I couldn't stomach the filler quests and cringey dialogue. The original still holds up.

I'm glad I pirated it before spending fucking $70

The original is my all time favorite game and I hated this "remake" like nothing else.
The only good thing about it is that the Aeris model is so drop dead gorgeous I fell in love with her AGAIN.

Yeah Barret got neutered.
