This one specifically fucks me up. I've played this game so many times that I can see the individuals cans and boxes on this map in my mind

didnt we discover this was actually from a mod or something?

These felt bigger because:

A. You were an impressionable kid when you first played them.

B. Rockstar used a bunch of smoke and mirrors to make the map feel larger than it is in reality.

True, but GTAV is genuinely gigantic. I wonder if they'll be able to top it with VI

Dark souls always felt small to me

Vice City never felt big to me. Felt smaller than GTA3 actually, significantly.

What difference does it make?

It was never big to begin with.

It was only that small due to the PS2 being severely underpowered, and having absolutely no loading times between the sections at all (and it's a complete miracle that the game even ran on the PS2 to begin with). The game was far better optimized on Xbox and PC (the latter especially due to mods).

The PS2 version is still infinitely more playable than the "Definitive Edition", but there is absolutely no point in playing 3, Vice City, or San Andreas on anything but PC (and I am still angry at Rockstar for not giving Liberty City Stories and Vice City Stories any PC ports at all).

Over half the map is empty though

This is actually really cool. MGS really is just a guy infiltrating a hangar facility on a tiny island.

Define "empty"

I'm hoping that Rockstar will eventually try to recreate an entire city without mountains and woods as padding.

>ghost town
I never went there

The SA map was small and still managed to be way better than the awful GTA V map

GTA5 empty isn't so bad though because its basically just fun terrain to mess around with the vehicles on. I like the fact that I can go on a police chase into a pretty vast wilderness.

you need to glitch to get to it. it's only used for the intro bank robbery.
