My go to strategy for SMT games is first name from a Yakuza character and last name from an Idolm@ster character. Opposite if the character is female.

I just let the names flow to me.

default names always, unless there aren't any, then I use my name on the MC, waifu's name on the first female that appears and the rest just some random name I come up with

Now that I think about it I think the only JRPG I've played where the protagonist didn't have a canon name was DQ XI and I just named him after myself.
