A lot of good cartoons are absurdist.
I concede that I didn't find it actually funny (unlike something like Xavier), but it wasn't really cringy either.
I liked the art, style, and music, kind of the same reason why I like some weird games, walking simulators, RPG Maker stuff, etc.
But yeah I just don't view it as a comedy, but an art experiment.

I don't know that it's trying to be funny, or at leas that's not the main goal. It's absurdist and dreamlike for the sake of being absurdist and dreamlike, if the viewer thinks it's finny that's on them. There are a few actual jokes, granted.
But even if the main series IT supposed to be funny, this game is not. Joel's directly said that if Ena is dreamlike than that would include Nightmares, which is what the game focuses on.
