Read the books or the comics. They're plain wonderful in talking about serious stuff in most absurd way. Tove Jansson is a great writer where the comfy outdoors are clashed with your typical family 'drama' - dad who thinks he's hot shit, superprotective mother and a son that is ambitious but doesn't really know much yet.
Alternatively - watch Moomins at Rivera cause it's an excellent film.

I mean, that's cool, and I'll play it because I fucking love Moomin, but man, I would have preferred a party-focused game with the standard cast in the same vein as South Park: Stick of Truth, gameplay wise. Obviously the tone would be drastically different, but the interactions between Snufkin, Sniff, and Moomintroll are the best part of the cartoon. I'm also not sure how well he'll work on his own, most of his character was about giving lessons to Moomintroll or calling out others on their bullshit.
