Blocking sales in Russia makes no significant change whatsoever, people here are already used to pirating, to which even most buyers will quickly return if there's no other option. If anything, it's blocking Russian people who disagree with Pootin from indirectly opposing him by giving money to Ukrainian charities (because directly opposing the "special military operation" nets you 15 years in prison, and nobody's going to risk that for a fucking video game).

Nope, bought games for years now (though I did mostly start from pirating and off-brand disks). Convenience (and regional prices) are a powerful thing.

The real point is that marketplaces don't want to set a fixed price while the ruble is still in freefall. Everything else is just virtue signalling (except maybe if the devs are actually Ukrainian or adjacent, in which case they might understandably be too pissed off to properly target their anger).

I'm pretty sure foreign companies who do business in Russia need to pay the government tax or whatever. Depriving the Russian government of these funds is more consequential than whatever trace amounts of toilet paper money some anti Putin gamers would provide.
It probably makes sense when thinking about money but culturally its a pretty dumb move.
