Final Fantasy XIV critique thread

Both fans and not-fans of the game, post your criticisms of this MMO. Basically any other thread people will go full autistic rage if you have any critique on the game, so here's a free haven to talk about what you don't like about it.

14 is objectively the worst FF ever made.

14 is objectively the best FF ever made

Agreed

Agreed

Who's the fucking autist that keeps spamming these threads?

the core gameplay looks good, i dont like the UI, the story appears to be generic godslaying jrpg stuff
the main issue is i wont play a fantasy MMO if it doesn't have dwarves

Them not going with instanced housing is an embarrassment, even fucking Runescape knew that was a dead-end back in 2006.

Why do critiques of a game you didn't even make upset you so badly?

Some of the maps are still fucking atrocious after all these years. Limsa and Ul'dah continue to be obnoxious as fuck to navigate.

Why does a game make you so upset you constantly make threads asking others to say mean things about it?

>beards are canonically part of the helmet
They're shit

FF14 it would be better if it was offline.
(because the community is toxic)

And if it cutting all these damn fetch quests of common MMO

Close, but no.

the fuckin LOOT SYSTEM HASN'T GIVEN ME MY BIS CHEST AND MY BIS WEAPON YET!!!

>Endwalker, releases in 2021
>We have a brand new feature for questing, we hope you will all like it!
>IT'S FUCKING ESCORT QUESTS
>THE MOST REVILED TYPE OF QUEST TO EVER BE PUT INTO WOW
>Yoshi P says that the design team feels discouraged because some people were mean about new quest types that they struggled for years to get into the game
So they institue the most hated type of quest from a game that came out years before 1.0 even released, then they studied they fuck out of WoW for 2.0, and somehow decided they should introduce escort quests? Are they insane? I didn't even dislike the Endwalker ones but I couldn't defend them if I wanted to, and they were torn apart in reviews as expected, especially the tailing mission variant that was much easier for people to mess up on accident.

One thing I never see people bring up is how fucking weird the Scions are as an ensemble cast. When you start MSQ, you're told they're all a bunch of nerds from some Nerdville place that you won't even visit for at least 500 hours. And they all very much act like very polite brainiacs, with maybe the sole exception of "Yda". Think about it:

Alphinaud = diplomacy nerd
Yshtola = aether nerd
Urianger = cosmology nerd
Papalymo = general nerd
Krile = general nerd 2.0
Minfilia = Echo nerd

As for Thancred, the supposed roguish ladies' man of the group, just politely agrees with the nerds rather than doing anything roguish most of the time. Although maybe you can chalk that up to him being the secret bad guy for the first chunk of the plot. The only consistent non-nerd elements of the party are Alisae and Estinien, and they aren't really permanent features until later expansions.

I'm honestly a bit shocked that the game was able to gain traction with a cast like that. Almost any other fantasy story will have a core ensemble that's much more varied. You'll have stalwart paladin types, dick-ass thieves, gruff barbarians, saucy bards, know-it-all wizards, friendly halflings, and whatever the fuck else moving the story and character drama forward with their contrasting personalities. In FF14, everybody agrees. All the time. 80% of the party members are a more polite version of the know-it-all wizard.

And I'm not even saying it's a bad thing. There's a shitload of people out there who clearly enjoy it. Very much. I'm just curious why it was written this way, and what those who enjoy it find so appealing about it. Is it a Japanese collectivism thing? Is it that the audience finds the relative lack of conflict relaxing somehow? Or is it just good old FF nostalgia overshadowing everything else? I'm not sure myself, but I would like to hear your thoughts.

>Minfilia = Echo nerd
I agree with all of them except for this one, Minfilia instead comes off (or at least came off to me) as a pretty simple Stacey chick who only acts as the Scion's figurehead and agent, finding where the realm is in trouble and assigning the actually useful member missions. She barely knew anything about the echo, though I guess you could label her as 'wannabe Hydaelyn priestess' up until she actually goes full Oracle in Heavensward when she becomes the Word of the Mother.

Okay here's my critique: Too much of a focus on fucking raids. This isn't the 2010s anymore. No one who matters gives a fuck about raids and it's beyond autistic to clear the same fucking raid over and over and over again for 4 months.

Fuck raids, fuck raiders and fuck WoWbucks.

EW had MSQ and RAIDS RAIDS RAIDS on launch. For fucking months. I'm sick of it.

It threw away coherent compelling world design for themeparking, and this only got worse during each expansion.
Teleporting everywhere instantly ruined any semblance of the world having meaning.

What the fuck were you expecting?
Do you honestly believe this team of fucking JAPS will EVER take ANY fucking RISK?
Fuck no.
These mother fuckers made JRPG with online lobby elements and call it an MMO.
Fucking spare me.

This, what the hell, escort quests are the most hated shit, you ALWAYS see it on "shit you hate about games" threads.
