prefects dont actually do anything
they're usually children of influential parents who either work for the school or who have big dick energy in that town.
at best prefects have to attend a boring student council meeting every month during lunchtime while their mates are outside playing and they occasionally have to make a speech at some gay event.

what school did you go to? being a prefect is just something kids do to put on their uni application; it's not a preference for rich kids at all. most of the time they're stationed around areas of the school to kick kids out at break times.

prefects are just the class swots that grass on the other kids, usually with a very large amount of protection from the teachers for said info. They creep around schools, leave classes early/late to spy and get zero reward for it.
