Game runs like shit

Whats the weirdest tip youve ever gotten that actually worked?

NWN didn't run, but when after reading some forum I renamed nwn.exe to something else it worked fine.

changed decimal separator from ',' to '.' to fix crashes

In my case I had to plug in a controller to make it run well.

Heres a weird oddly specific issue that had the weirdest fix

Theres a DPS addon for FFXIV called ACT its simply a damage calculator.

when i use Windows built in photo viewer/editor and try to crop any image i wont be able to save it.

>Close ACT

i can now crop my images.

Its weird as shit.

>messing with audio settings somehow increases fps twofold in some games
Yeah, I get there is some convoluted explanation about it using up processing power by playing many sounds at the same time or whatever, but it's always seemed bizarre to me.

>specific outdated version of old emulator for old nip PC slows down
>sometimes goes to proper speed, but dips back
>not a resource problem
>"turn on an application which makes use of an unrelated gui framework"
>it works full speed now

Had horrible stuttering and tearing in hollow knight. After tweaking all possible settings in the nvidia control panel to no avail, started googling the problem. Some random forum said it was fixed when you change the controller type to beta. I tried that and it actually worked. No idea why the controller type influenced the framerate but ok.

I love these stories. I already find an ini tweak or weird system setting change to get performance in a game satisfying. The weirder the fix the better.

fuckin thing didn't even install drivers automatically

Normally DNS issues go the other way but I'm still perplexed at how this is even possible

Same game

wat

probably a memory leak

Batman Arkham Knight would literally not save your game unless you had windows search indexing turned on

Not necessarily weird, but there used (?) to be this video of some kid explaining how to enable widescreen resolutions in the PC port of Sonic Riders through hex editing, and every once in a while he'd tab out to chat to some friends in some Sonic fan site all while some music played in his house in the background. The fix worked well too.

I had the same exact problem with a CoD game, I couldn't fucking believe it when it worked.

>Hold the CD under warm water then try again
How the fuck did that work anyway?

It's true, might be some gunk stuck at the bottom.

I couldn't use a controller for Elden ring because it thought my keyboard was a controller and was expecting the inputs (controller inputs not key inputs) from my controller on the keyboard. I either had to fully unplug my keyboard and leave it unplugged or go through a suprisingly arduous process to make SURE elden ring didn't get confused.

It was the most in depth and convoluted fix for an issue that was simple on it's face I've ever had.
