of course, but people don't want those

/thread

very liberal use of the word "people" you have there

Roblox

Why would you make a MMO that you can clear when you can milk the playerbase for years

your opinions don't remove personhood from other humans

MMOs made in 1996-2002 were about the adventure.
>No mini-map, just a map of the world that you have to memorize and not get lost
>Never know when you'll accidentally enter a high level area while following the main story questline because there was no quest markers
>Coming back to town with epic gear and/or secret high level spells felt euphoric to show off in front of newbs
To answer your question, no. Google searching and Wikis ruined MMOs, there's no sense of mystery anymore.

Do you wiki absolutely everything about a MMO before you play it?

subhumans do not have personhood to begin with

He doesn't need to, everyone else will because they don't value their experience enough to not spoil it in exchange for playing the game optimally.

Planetside 1

that just rpgs

First define "skinner box" as it applies to video games, in a way that doesn't potentially include every game ever made.

you're correct but referring to wikis isn't playing optimally even if the subhumans call it that

>Google searching and Wikis ruined MMOs
That's not it, as forums were always a thing where people shared info about the games. Those are still very optional. The problem is the target audience, and as vidya in general got massive, you need to include people with very different objectives in mind. That said, it needs to be accessible for everybody, in the process removing certain features, such as immersion, exploration, communication, etc. The more you see what people play, the more you realize people don't like those things.

They want to feel they're immersed, without actually getting too deep.
They want to feel they're exploring, without actually taking the effort to pay attention to their surroundings.
They want to feel they're communicating, without actually talking to others.

MMORPGs used to be made for a certain portion of gamers. Now everybody is a gamer and everybody should like every genre.
Which is a reasonable logic, taking into account how expensive your average games are nowadays.

No but other people do, especially minmaxfags. Now what you do in an MMO no longer feels unique since at least 50 soulless faggot did it before you first and will make fun of you for not doing it the "meta" way. The reason why MMOs are glorified dress up games now because avatars mix-matching are the only way to feel like an individual anymore.

Remember that "legendary badass player" on the server on which no one can figure out how he got so strong? Nope, nowadays the guy is either a chinese gold seller that the devs refuse to ban because they're secretly profiting off of him or some hacker that hasn't been caught yet.

Hackers existed in the old days, if anything they were more notable back then. Most old MMO shows/anime usually have a hacker as a mid or final boss.

whats a skinner box?

It basically means the game has no substance and you're just doing chores repeatedly because of "rewards" locked behind aggressive RNG

there's no such thing as a subhuman
your faux-superiority is laughable

You honestly just ousted yourself as either a subhuman or as someone who does not play multiplayer games.

a box for studying the behavior of animals via reward and punishment stimuli
when applied to MMOs, people are talking about how the game is designed around giving the player a reward for playing and they become conditioned into playing more. Not because the game is actually engaging, but because it tricks the player into just good enough.
example: skills in WoW used to be spaced out between levels so there was just enougn delay in getting them that the dopamine rush from obtaining that skill makes you feel compelled the keep leveling.
The bright flashy "ding" from leveling and getting a talent point carries you between levels.
once you've reached max, you're put on a gear treadmill. get more gear so you can do harder content so you can get more gear so you can do harder content etc etc

and you keep showing yourself to be a probable narcissist
just because you dislike someone doesn't make them any less human. deny it and out yourself as a tranny, as only trannies are in denial about basic biology

No clicker gameplay, no grind, no "roles". Just make Devil May Cry and drop 100 Dantes into the world.
