no games have come out with native linux versions

Factually incorrect. Both MS and Sony's games CEOs got one and are excited for it. Not canceling my reservation.

don't care I like steam hardware, I use my steam controller. You will be playing indie games on a steam deck 10 year from now.

They don't really need to. Steamdeck is a PC, so you can just run whatever settings you want.

why is he flicking the stick like that? is he a pc player only used to driving with WASD?

They don't have to, they only need to just send the simple email that enables EAC, everyone involved with WINE and Proton will do the rest, and I as an end user will make the binds to play their game even if they don't add controller support (though I don't know why they wouldn't have controller support, that just seems worth it to have on a regular PC.)

Most non-competitive racers flick their joysticks. It's literally why games made with controller support in mind have so much steering delay. Actual sims are impossible for most people without steering wheels because of this.

>moving the goalpost

the goalposts is and was native linux versions as long as we are faking windows perf will always take a hit

the fan noise is actually the smoking gun that every single shill cuck faggot has been avoiding

I get there's a genuine possibility that you're paid to make the same template posts, but don't you feel the slightest like a faggot seething about the steam deck making the SAME posts literally every day?

The whole point of the Deck is that they don't have to care, so I don't see the issue.

i am a Linux user who was hoping this would mean more native Linux ports

Hey Guys,

I'm little under a week with the Deck now, absolutely loving it, however my case zipper stitching has started to come apart already, its been used completely normally with no exessive force at all (and only really been open and closed

Given the history of subpar ports and fucked feature parity. I'm safe to assume you're full of shit.

As a fresh After Q3er(After q2 before) which reserved their SD 256GB EU August 9th, I was holding some hope that with an update to estimates, things will look better even though I knew that most of the orders are concentrated within the first day, july 16th. I hoped that eventually they’ll reach their hundreds of thousands of decks per month plan and I would be able to get my deck by may, june at the latest. Seeing the latest update in estimates having such a reserved estimate of earliest being October (haha, as if), I feel like if I keep paying attention to SD news I’ll just keep getting more and more frustrated about how cool it is and how I probably won’t be getting one this year.

Sure, they will ramp up production and sure, I might get a better estimate within a few weeks, but how much better will it be? Even though I understand that they would rather give people better estimates later because it makes them feel better than being “moved back” ( Yes, you aren’t actually being “moved” anywhere, I get it ), how much better will it realistically be? I can’t possibly move from october+ all the way to may or june where i’d at least be comfortable waiting, otherwise what even is the point of these estimates if they fluctuate so hard?

I was so excited for this thing, peaking at the release this february, and I know I’ll keep being excited if I follow the news, but at the same time I feel like my excitement, interest and enthusiasm for the product will all die out by the time i even get to order it. It gets tiring being so excited for something you can’t get.

Steam deck is holding back gaming

It sucks even more because I feel like I made the wrong decision going with the 256GB model, as it is quite a bit more expensive than the 64gb while virtually only offering a better storage, which you can buy and upgrade for way cheaper(256gb ssds of that form factor are like EUR40 as opposed to the EUR130 I have to pay extra for the 256gb steam deck over 64gb). I am not uncomfortable opening devices, especially with how easy it is with SD. The only reason I went with 256GB is because at the time we didn’t know if the 64gb model would have soldered-on eMMC or if it would even have an m.2 slot at all, so I didn’t risk it. But now I know, and the microsd card slot is also more than serviceable. I would’ve rather went with either 64gb and save cash or 512gb for the anti glare screen.

With how uncertain it is with supply chains and how the ongoing war may threaten to further cause trouble to semiconductor manufacturing, I may as well cancel the preorder now and get a 64gb, or better yet not buy any and pay extra for more performance once a better aya neo comes out.

It’s just crazy to think they are estimating to need more than half a year to ship decks to people reserving within the first few hours. I noticed people getting Q3s as soon as first day of preorders and as late as july 19th so far, regions and storages notwithstanding. I thought that august 9 isnt THAT far off and there’s only a couple hundred thousand reservations day 1 at best and that i’d be getting mine may or june, but at this point I even doubt I’m getting it by christmas.

cope, you got BTFOd and proven wrong and thus your last resort is to move the goalpost

TL;DR For anyone not having reserved within the first few days, you may be better off taking your mind off the steam deck, as with the current order estimates, if you havent reserved within the first day or so, you’ll at best be getting it by october, and all the excitement you have for it will just lead to further frustration from not being able to get it.

Sorry, this post doubled as a rant as I really wanted to get this off my chest. Sorry if I wasted your time.

Q1 got my email today

I noticed that FSR is hard to use on Deck. When it works, it seems to be great. I keep it at sharpness 3, which gives me the best results.

But why is it hard to use? Simply said, the system doesn't report to games resolutions that allow FSR to work.

The FSR implementation on the Deck, and the other upscalers, are basically always checking if the current resolution is lower than the display resolution (1280x800). If it is, then it toggles on and outputs to the display. But if the resolution is equal or very close to the screen resolution, it just stays off.

The problem is that most games ask the system which resolutions it's allowed to render at. This is useful to prevent someone from putting something in an unusable resolution. But the thing is that the Deck only reports 3 resolutions to the games that ask for them:

1280x800 (native 16:10)

1280x720 (native 16:9)

Something I don't remember but it's basically 720p 4:3 (but not really. Key point is 4:3 aspect ratio)

Out of all of these, FSR only toggles on at the 4:3 resolution. It looks great and FSR is indeed working, but it's 4:3, which means you loose about half of the display to black bars.

A way this could be fixed would be by adding more resolutions to the system/drivers, for example, an 80% resolution (1024x640), so that games that rely on reported resolutions can actually switch to that.

I know there's a function to add custom resolutions with nvidia cards on windows, and I use it quite often. But I don't know how to do that on linux. Regardless, it should simply be available by default.
