It's not that bad but there's so little to do

I bought it on Switch and it's dead though
I have my save files backed up from hacking my switch, are they transferrable to the steam version? And is the steam version still actively played?

I'll say to you that it's okay but not better than armoured core. In terms of pure movement and customization, AC has it beat by a country mile. Daemon X Machina's story ends up providing you with a world and characters you aren't really interested in protecting by the time the game ends. Compare that to AC, where, despite NPC interaction overall being very minimal, what small interactions you have combined with the organisations at large provide the player with a universe that feels alive without any of the apocalyptic stakes of DXM. Ultimately, I would say it somewhat manages to stand up on its own, but there is certainly room for improvement. Of course, you should take everything I've said with a grain of salt on account of the fact that I've never played an armoured core game in my life nor watched any footage of the games. I am just making up most of my points.

>equip lightest armor and still never even take damage
>half the missions end prematurely, stopping you from shooting down your primary target or any other targets
>game has more functions than comfortably fit on a controller
>enemies randomly accelerate to lightspeed and fly past your camera just so you have to slowly realign your camera with your narrow field of view
>foot combat is an absolute meme and I don't know why it's in the game
>90% of story missions are "Computer says enemy mechs coming in! Wait, they're not enemies, they're our colleagues! Let's shoot each other down anyway because computer is always right!"
Despite all that, I still somewhat liked it. I guess playing on PC with mouse and keyboard helped a bit with playing this looking around simulator with too many buttons.
