>2017; Horizon comes out and gets alright reviews but it's impossible to avoid talking about BOTW without Horizon coming off as noticeably weaker >2022: Horizon 2 comes out and gets alright reviews but it's impossible to escape Elden Ring's shadow
If the pattern holds true, Horizon 3 will come out the month before GTA6.
They’re not good games anyway. The writing leaves much to be desired and have no memorable characters

I loved Zero Dawn. Seriously one of my favorite games that gen, maybe my favorite game.
It is weird to hear (((game journalists))) talk about how much “improved” the sequel is, how they can use all the different tools, arrow types, traps, etc., to take down the monsters, and how rewarding and dynamic the combat is, when you can do all that shit in the first game! They just didnt bother to learn the game because they were jerking off over BOTW.
I havent played too much HFW but it is more of the same. Which is great because again I loved the original. It looks amazing, maybe the best looking game out there, but the first one was the same thing when it came out (especially on a PS4 Pro).

What are your favorite things about Horizon?

Horizon games are your average open world games #65. The only reason why people make it bigger than it is, is because of snoy shills

I mentioned some of them. Like I said I thought it looked amazing, everything was beautiful and it was fun to explore. I really liked the story and the lore. The history of the world was really interesting IMO. I loved the combat with the robots and all the tools they gave you to fight them. I played the game on hard and as it progressed I started to use all the tools to take them down efficiently (it is actually frustrating to load up HFW and I was just stumbling around because I remember what I did in HZD). The progression of HZD was well considered, especially the way the robots got more complex and difficult as the game progressed.
I just thought it was a really wonderful game and a lot of people didnt give it a chance. The people praising HFW are often praising it for all this stuff that HZD did as well. The game is far better than the vast majority of open world games. I have not played too much of FW yet and none of Elden Ring because I am waiting for that game to actually run at a consistent frame rate.

Honestly it feels like it works more to its benefit that it even gets unintentional publicity by being near better games.

Robot dinosaurs.

The new weapons are mostly good. Blast Sling and Ropecaster have been nerfed into the fucking ground though. Also I swear breaking off Widemaw tusks is impossible.
Colton Wilson
It also has to deal with the fact no one has a PS5

That's cool. I've been thinking about giving HZD a second chance. I played it in 2017 but it was shortly after putting 100+ hours into BotW. I think I was burned out on open world shit and couldn't stop comparing them against one another so I was hard on it. When I think back it did seem to be more enjoyable than a lot of other open world shit I've tried. I really liked fighting that big bird robot on top of the snowy mountain.

>hard mode >level 22 >do quest to clear out camp of aggressive ravagers >suddenly thunderjaw I didn't think it was possible but they made them even more aggressive.
>they do this on purpose for an excuse when their game doesn't do well

>new From game >new Gran Turismo >new Horizon >new Pokémon >Dying Light 2 >CP2077 patch
In the first 8 weeks. IIRC all those games except Pokémon got pushed into 2022. The flu hoax led to chaos and all these devs are wrapping up their 2021 games and getting out this year. The entire schedule is going to be stacked.

I dunno. I played HFW and I liked it up until the ending. The ending was so bad it made me hate the game. The kind of game where it only exists to set up another entry in the series vs completing the tale. HFW should have been much more different, and the 3rd one is just going to be "whackier, even meaner, robot dinosaurs, powered by the nano dust of alien NEETs / Lawn Mower Men". Shame you couldn't get everyone killed a la Mass Effect, bc the characters are terrible.

They planned this shit to keep getting funding. Basically they can blame failure on other games and convince Sony they didn't make a crappy game. I have to admit it is kind of clever.
The difference between HZD and HFW is similar to the difference between The Matrix and The Matrix Revolutions. One stands alone, the other only serves as taking the series into laughably bad direction and mostly exists to set up a finale that isn't the finale we actually wanted but just some fluff ending. How much you wanna get the end of HZD3 ends in a "compromise" between humanity and Nemesis? Likely Nemesis will become a sub function of GAIA or vice versa.

Ropecaster is still strong, just not OP to the point where you can fully tie down machines in a couple seconds like you could in ZD. Taking a machine out of the battle is always going to be a strong ability. It gets a lot better once you get a Ropecaster with advanced ropes, the one I use only takes 3-4 ropes to tie down most machines. In FW it feels its about a similar power level to shock, whereas in ZD the Ropecaster basically made shock irrelevant because it was faster to inflict and a stronger status effect. Now in FW there are actually pros and cons to each. Shock is generally easier to inflict because it's available on more weapons and shock ammo can be fired faster, but the tied down status lasts way longer than the shocked status. Ropecaster now also have secondary ammo with the canister harpoons, which are a cool idea and also pretty effective at giving you a way to quickly inflict other statuses on machines.

The problem with Horizon is that it lacks style, without playing it, it just looks like your typical graphical testing movie game like read dead redemtion 2 or the last GoW for example. Maybe I'm wrong, probably I'm wrong, but what I'm saying is that it doesn't have the initial appeal required to make me be invested enough to actually try it.
