This is why they should've made double jump reset fall damage but disable (can have a visual effect on torrent to signify) it if you've fallen too far.
Still works for platforming but you wouldn't be able to use it to cheese long falls off cliffs/towers.

Not only does double jumping not cancel fall damage it makes it worse since the fall counter keeps incrementing while you're in the air.
You can kill yourself by double jumping a fall.
iirc metroid won't let you double jump if your downward velocity is too high
Fall damage in real life is broken as fuck, some people just instantly die when they trip and some people fucking fall out of planes and survive with minor damage. And of course it's still not patched.
