Has there ever been a truly great post apocalyptic game?
I was never a fan of Fallout's boring grey deserts.

That depends on the apocalypse and time elapsed.
Not everything results in a grey desert.

I like this sort of aesthetic for it, too bad this area in nier automata was smaller than Hyrule field and there's no reason to ever explore in that game.

But wasn't Nier Automata like thousands of years after the war? It makes sense that plants would be regrown by that time, as opposed to Fallout in which the games all take place like within 200 years of the war.

I assumed OP wanted a world with a very recent nuclear apocalypse. Of course after a while the world can heal and would appear different, just like Nier's picture.

But I agree, Automata's setting was really fucking cool

Yeah there's plenty of apocalyptic scenarios that result in different post apocalyptic environements.

>2nd moon affected environment due to another meteor impact
>worldwide alien bullshit a la Roadside Picnic
You can get creative with it if you go beyond normality
