They're kept alive by their mobile division and FFXIV. Just expect a bunch of failures throughout the generation as they try to make a big live service game for normalfags.

They were a dying company in the year 2000. If not for FF14 accidentally being successful they'd have been subsumed into Tencent or some shit like that by now.

They haven't been "Square" since FF9. That was their last game. They haven't been relevant since then.

I'm big on not holding on. I experienced the core part of Square's golden era, during the core part of my childhood development. I was into them as much as you could be

But it's time to move on. I don't understand why I see so many people- who WEREN'T part of that golden era- hanging on to this company, hanging on to stuff like FF that honestly just has no value as a property anymore.

you still get to take some credit for making good decisions which games to publish. They should just buy platinum, should be easy now. Then they will get an injection of some talent related to action combat and animation, and they can continue forward with the stranger of paradise type stuff. I think character action games can sell a lot and obviously THE game to emulate right now is genshin impact.

tried to play that game and couldn't see it. I guess all social interaction has been replaced by video game grinding, i honestly think that's why it's succeeding so much.
