why is that?
Not a souls guy but I heard this game is very controversial in the community
it dared to be different from DS1 and soulsfags don't like change
'Elden Ring' prototype
DS2 bronies are fun to troll simple as
ebin hard game was too hard and they started coping
in what ways was it different?
some guy made a video
it's better than ds3 and ds1 and soi-infused redditors hate that it is because it was made by a different team at fromsoft
it's the thinking man's souls game
Long story short DaS II was originally intended to be basically what Elden Ring is now but the director got fired and the open world was scrapped.
The new director wove together the assets that were produced and they churned out a buggy, nonsensical sequel to DaS that was loaded with additional problems caused by a sudden decision that it had to be launched on PS3.
People were highly disappointed with it and when it was discovered that the primary From Software Team including miyazaki was working on sony exclusive Any Forums lost it's mind.
In retrospect, DaS II for all its flaws is an enjoyable experience with its very own charm, some of which has yet to be recaptured by future souls games.
There exists a modern form of shitposting that invovles calling it the best of the franchise while shitting on DaS III. This was done to essentially immitate and older time where people were inducing rage by over-selling Bloodborne.
I don't really know. The feel and atmosphere is totally different from the first game, so that's probably part of it, but I still like it. I do enjoy it more than FF15 or FF7 for example, such a good game with a lot of unique locales
99% of the people who scream about DS2 spent a painful hour thinking Heide's was the first area because they were incapable of exploring and chose the safe, prevalent entrance
because it was the only souls game made by the B team and it turned out better than all the A team mainline souls games
It's the same as any other Souls games but wasn't directed by Miyazaki thus the cult of personality wouldn't admits it's the fucking best one Scholar came out, and you know how rabid fanboys are, and japs too with their bushido shit.
Anyways the director came around and made Elden Ring good. Miyazaki is a hack.
>and when it was discovered that the primary From Software Team including miyazaki was working on sony exclusive Any Forums lost it's mind.
kek is this true?
>Hideous visuals
>The most egregiously bad hitboxes in the franchise
>Nonsensical world design (Iron Keep somehow being above a decrepit windmill, this is especially bad because DaS' main appeal was world design)
>Recycling of bosses like Dragonrider and Ruin Sentinels
>"Floaty combat" (I can't really define what people mean by this), way too many bosses that feel like filler (Prowling Magus, Royal Rat Vanguard, Covetous Demon)
I love DaS2 but it's obviously very flawed. All that being said I still think there's plenty of things it did right such as Bonfire Ascetics, powerstancing, and more. I think it's overhated personally.
>There exists a modern form of shitposting that invovles calling it the best of the franchise while shitting on DaS III.
The utmost cope is to think it's about trolling when it's a fact that it's superior to 3 by highs and lows. It's not even "trolling", it's just plain truth if anyone actually plays videogames and play both.
But Any Forums doesn't play videogames, you just regurgitate what user told you to. Maximum tool.
Souls 2 was very ambitious, but due to pressures it released early (as any other souls game)
It had very awful technical issues. The hype was also through the roof, becoming a dissapointment. Then Scholar of the First Sin came around, being a "definitive edition" of the game, fixing a lot of stuff and lightning engine that no other fromsoftware game has (not even ER) and came with the full DLC package. It's a really really long and good experience.
Still Any Forums wouldn't let go for years. When DaS3 came out and was a dissapointment too, people realized what Miyazaki could and couldn't do. Same thing happened with Kojima and Revengeance, being the best Metal Gear story and game because it's not a Kojima wankfest.
Elden Ring is basically DaS2-2.
this. 2 is by far my personal favorite of the three, but i can admit that 3 clearly has a higher production value and 1 is the most solid entry overall.
i like to look at 2 and 3 as seperate branches of dark souls. 2 went the slow, stat-centric, "how was i supposed to know" path, while 3 took the fast, linear action, "memba ds1?" path.
I really enjoyed dark souls 2 dont understand the hate it gets
the pvp was too good for backstab lagstab faggots
No shadows.
I don’t know. It’s really fun. The world is not as cohesive as the other games, it’s more just a bunch of fantasy settings jumbled together, but it’s a great game.
Here's a list of things DS2 pioneered and future games copied:
-estus shards/bones instead of kindling
-casting magic also consumes stamina to limit spam
-multi direction rolls while locked on
-midroll up to 70% weight
-effigy/ember at any time and get HP penalty removed
-2 hit stun limit in PvP to prevent infinite stunlocks
-backstab has a 2 way confirmation via an extra grab animation
-4 ring slots (plus rebalanced rings so more niche effects aren't just ignored like DS1 where everyone used Havel's and FAP)
-parry frames in the middle of the animation (at the apex of the swing)
-infusions separate from upgrade levels
-longer messages with 2 phrase structure
-reasonable poise levels
-ultra weapons unpariable when 2H
-jumping attacks on almost all weapons unpariable
-guardbreak allows for a riposte
-blue sentinels to save noobs from reds
-seeds of giant to aggro PvE to invaders
-limited respec
-preview of next active items in queue
-inventory laid out in grid instead of list
>tfw genuinely enjoyed ds1, ds2, and ds3
I like DS2 just because I got into dark souls late so when DS2 came out I got it at launch and played the fuck out of it and had a great time pvping and ganking people. It's too bad that the Soul Memory system destroyed pvp.
